It goes onto one stud of the starter, and obviosly into some relay bank that is clearly visible.
Last time I pulled a starter at a yard I took the cable with it.

Positive Battery Cable
My battery ruined my positive battery cable and ground. I can see where the ground goes but how hard is it to get the other end of the positive cable. I can't see where it goes form the top of the motor.
