so as requested, here are the pics. the trans had been acting a little funny ever since the car has been making proper power. might soon end up being a 5 speed!

evidence of the ears early life rear-ending. There is no damage to the frame what so ever, however there is also some slight buckling under the trunk liner. Should be fixable.

people should be hitting up Deek for their cars. still not sure how he found this one, but it was him who found it.
You just gotta ask the right people (and give a lot of HJs).

Seriously though, I inquired on CL and after some correspondence the owner seemed flabbergasted and told me it was mine for $100. I guess I was too inquisitive .

well it WAS working pretty good. it's being a tad bitchy now. when cold it won't shift into 3rd unless you are at redline, when it's hot it sometimes won't downshift into 2nd when floored unless manually pulled down with the shifter. if it does get down into 2nd, it won't upshift again unless it's revved up to 3500+. this is all on a "sometimes" basis. it works fine sometimes, not others.

basically it's holding, but the gears are hanging. Burnsside was suggesting that the valve body may be worn out. not sure. I also hear that brake band adjustments are the thing to do with these trannys that corrects shifting issues. the kickdown cable seems to be working freely not not binding (that I can tell)

pull the bottom pan off the trans and see what's sitting on it. If you're lucky it will only be dirty trans oil, if you're not lucky there will be bits of metal.

Apparently adjusting the bands really can help, but other times shit just falls apart and some of the stuff can't be fixed. There are some parts that wear into the trans case and can't be fixed after that point.

in the maint. records, it's had it's trans flushed at least 3 times (that in the last 5 years), so I'd suspect the fluid is still pretty clean. there is no record of the transmission fluid filter ever having been changed, so I will try that and a band adjustment. If it's still acting up after that, the 3 speed auto is going away

well what do you mean by "burnout"? when ever you hold the brake, mash the gas to the floor to get it spooling, and let the brake go, boom, burn out  clearly this depends on how long the brake / gas have been on at the same time. with a light touch on the gas with the brake applied, just enough to get it up around 1800 RPM's, and then letting off on the brake while going to full throttle makes it take off like a shot with no loss of traction. makes for a 0-60 time of 6 seconds flat!
