NG900 road trip: what spare parts should I bring

I'm driving from Two Harbors to Knoxville in an NG900 to pick up another NG900. I'm gonna bring spare DI cassette, and two spare tires, as well as some basic tools.

What other parts should I bring with?

A different car.

i have to agree that some sort of "protection" would be nice just because of the unknown. you could be trying to fix the car on the side of the road and get mugged jumped etc and really without cell service (which we all know isn't nationwide no matter what carrier) you can't do much. plus even with cell service all that can be done is cops come when they can. i know paranoid a lot i have seen too many wrong turn type movies but better safe then sorry. also no need for anti firearm comments etc... this is just my opinion.

OK, Mr. Srs Bsns, a full-size floor jack and jack stands. Those were invaluable during the Canada trip last summer. Also, brake cleaner and JB Weld Kwik. Also invaluable.

Are you towing the car or getting a ride down?

Spare DI, plenty of water (can be used as coolant) and a AAA membership.

How many miles on the car?

spare di is set, full size jack is a good thought.

i have an AAA gold membership or whatever it is.

driving down with my buddy who has a 95 900se, and tag teaming it back. 34 hours of driving in 3 days. yay!

Yeah, I think the full-size jack was Delorean's idea. It added weight to the Great White c900, but, holy crap, it would have sucked without it.

Another thing you might want to pack is a fastener container. I bet a lot of us have a coffee can, old Fluff container or Tupperware thing that holds our Saab bolts and torx collection as well as spare washers and stuff. I think we dug into that a few times on the road last summer.

As for road snacks, get stuff that requires work to keep you awake while driving. In-shell sunflower seeds work really well for me on long solo drives.

Nothing, and here's why:

You bring an alternator, the water pump will go.

You bring a water pump, the DI will go

Etc, etc.

Whatever you bring will be the wrong part. Ask me how I know...

Or just bring all those parts. ;) It's been more or less done. I had to pack all of our food stuff and my tent around a spare ABS system in my hatch in Canada.

We were, thanks to Delorean and PaulH, prepared for pretty much everything including a nuclear holocaust.

instead of the clutch cable, i think i'm going going to bring a hydraulic conversion kit, and do the hydraulic clutch conversion at a rest stop

Yeah - I recommend to everyone (as I mentioned earlier in the thread) to keep a spool of bailing wire in your trunk. It can fix a lot as a temporary OR permanent solution, and is a lot stronger than a zip tie.

For instance, when I stripped the thread on the shock mount on my c900, the lower shock was basically held on by bailing wire for a while. Like, 3 months. Worked great.

-T25 torx bit for the application of your choice. If there's one tool to take apart a NG900, it's that (barring the sawzall of course).
-Light. I carry some kinda of super spotlight of death that's powered by the cig lighter.
-Rags.
-Spare fluids, obviously.
-Zipties.
-Bottle cap + cutting device, in case you forget to tighten the nut that locks the adjustment on the clutch cable.
