New motor?

1033 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Uniballer
Looks like I'm trying to find a new motor for my 97 CSE.
I took out the rod bearings and I can feel roughness on the crank journals. I don't know if it'll be cheaper for it to be machined or buy a new motor. Let me know what you guys think or if you know anyone selling one, Let me know. Keep in mind That I'm in FL so shipping may be a consideration. thanks everyone

No worries on grabbing it. I dropped the pan and am taking emery cloth to the rod journals. I microed it and talked to a crankshaft guy about the specs and my budget and he said it's definitely worth a shot for $120 for the bearings. Bearings should be hear in 3-7 days from Parts Geek.
I have a friend who used to work at Chrysler and they saved a bunch of cranks this same way. I probably won't be able to put all the power I wanted on this motor but at least I'll hopefully be driving it soon.
I'll update the thread when I get done and let you guys know how it went.

Btw, anyone know the torque specs on the main and rod caps?
sounds like a plan. if all goes well for you i might try it i had the same problem but i had to drive it home, like 6 miles =\, but i might try to just drop the pan and put all new bearings in.
I ran into an issue with the bearings... I couldn't get the #5 main cap off due to the cps wheel and the top bearing on #1. Every other bearing is sliding nicely and will be easy to replace.
I should only need a couple millimeters to be able to slide those bearings out. I took off the front cover to hopefully have a little bit of room to play... Kinda stuck at this point.
Any suggestions would be really really really helpful... TIA
