We pulled out of the Great Depression because of deficit spending, which helped kickstart the economy with a transfusion of cash and the associated jobs. In fact, after a couple of years of growth, Republicans pressured Roosevelt to rein in spending....and the economy dropped again.

Deficit spending is NOT smart during times of economic growth, mainly because it drives us deeper into trouble...which is exactly what happened over the past right years.

Also...check your current events.

The major stock indices were both up for a whole week for the first time in two years. The markets are sensing there's a serious commitment to fixing the current mess, and they're responding with action...and the fact that thousands of stocks are undervalued right now. I love it, barely 90 days into his presidency and the conspiracy theorists are climbing out of the woodwork.

If any of these evil government conspiracy theories were right the people who pulled it all together would have been killed.

What he doesn't love to trot out is the facts on his motorcade. A couple of full size SUV's Dodge trucks(really Al, could you have used a less green company than Dodge?) and countless motorcycles.

 

The only people I hear talking about Obama being the savior of all times are Republicans, why is that? I can't recall any Democrats that I know talking about expectations of complete salvation from our fucked up quagmire...only right wingers...

It really just goes back to the "Celebrity" attacks and "The One" attacks from the campaign. I know people who devoted 18 months of their lives to getting Obama elected and never thought that he would work any magic once in office, not by a long shot. It was just an attack that the right wingers found that hit their target, not really attacking Obama, but his supporters.

I did know many people who were completely head over heals during the campaign, and to my knowledge none of them are disappointed thus far. To be fair though some of these people are the same ones who were head over heals about Gore in 2000, Kerry in 2004 and in one case Bush in 2000 and 2004.

 

My standard response to 9/11 conspiracy theorists is this: "Do you have any idea how many people would be involved in something like that? Do you really think that all those people could all keep their mouths shut? We are talking about the US government."

As for going to war with Iraq to steal oil: Where's all this stolen oil going? Why are gas prices still much higher than they were pre-9/11?

I publicly berated a Canadian at a coffeeshop in Amsterdam after he broached the 9/11 conspiracy subject with me, even after I politely told him, numerous times, that I preferred not to discuss it.

 

I wouldn't describe myself as a right-wing whacko, just a person who deals with the retarded masses day in and day out, and all I heard day in and day out was "I'm gonna pull all my shit out of stock and put it in cash and put it back in when Obama fixes the economy". Then some of these same people are pissed off that Obama hasn't flown down from his magic cloud and made it rain gumdrops and given them all puppies.

When you look at it from a more cynical perspective, "hope" isn't a very pragmatic or actionable strategy. People hope for sunny days on vacation, but there isn't a damn thing you can do to guarantee that. When the "hope" message is pounded into your head over and over and over it begins to overshadow any actual ideas or accomplishments, especially the ones you don't particularly care for.

Some of us have a particularly bitter taste in our mouths left over from election season and a trillion dollars in new spending along with the common political practice of whipping idiots into frenzies of blind rage and hatred and so on and so forth.

The 911 Truth data: is cobbled together in such a way that the only way it's actually believable is if you want to believe it. This "facts" presented do to not hold water, and the only semblance of cohesiveness is the intent to make you believe this viewpoint as well. Simply put if someones dissertation was done in this manner they would be shown the door.

Thanks for showing-up but, this is nothing more than an exercise in faith. To me religion seems to be a less insane alternative to this sort of faith, and that is saying something.

Well case anyone forgot, even with 9/11, most countries would not back up the USA for invading Iraq and all their claims of weapons of mass dectruction turned up nothing once invaded. So you tell me what else what else could they have drummed up to invade Iraq and have Saddam's head? Anything less than 9/11 would not have yeilded the same results and Saddam would probably still be alive today.
