alright i fiinally dropped off my stage 2 viggen for a new clutch.slave cylinder..chain/guides/tensioner/headgasket/and other misc. gaskets and whatever else it needs at 170k to make it run new, quiet and flawless again and ready for more power :p .
believe me it needs it.

This new saab master tech who i just met, that was highly recommended to me by various people here in new england will be working on it..he recommended doing the piston rings at the same time. . my motor has never burnt oil since ive owned it. . i realize they dont last forever but whats your take on getting them done? ive been thinking about it alot and leaning towards paying to get them done as well as i dont want to spring for the forged pistons just yet or should i ??.. im hoping i can bargain with him on extra stuff i want to get done since the motor will be out anyways.

What else is worth it and should i have done to the car while all this work is being performed ?
I am having him check all the mounts as well and might be upgrading them if they are indeed that bad.. but i can always get that done later and keep my bill somewhat low.
Any suggestions would be great.

Sounds good, but I must ask, whos this "new saab master tech who you just met"?

if you have the means go for the block rebuild with forged pistons. power in contagious and you might soon be to the point where you wish you had done the upgrade while they were in there

throttle body is cleaned regularly and works fine, same with the MAF, both aren't original.. CPS might be a good idea havent had that kick out on me yet since ive owned it.

Yeah i keep thinking about the forged pistons, i just might do it. . my power goals are 300+ but not more than 350 i would say.

Saab Specific up in N. Berwick Maine, has anyone heard of him ???? his name is steve he used to be the master tech at the dealership for many years and then opened up his own shop i guess.

He is a really nice genuine guy and deff knows what he is talking about..i am having him throw in my GS sway bar and 3.5 bar FPR as well.

I previously only let one other saabshop touch any of my saab's but i havent been happy w. them lately for various reasons, so i have been talking to him for several weeks and his quote was much better, so i made the trip.. he also has tons of salvage cars and parts on his lot which makes it worth it, even just to look around .

uh no, most have an issue with A/F properly running engines are fine too about 333 bhp...

with near a 170k when i dropped it off for a rebuild, my viggen didn't burn a drop of oil. . the HG seeped a little but thats expected at that age..it still pulled hard on all original untouched internals and gaskets with stage 2 t7 suite and bolt ons.. my chain guides were well worn and boy could you tell on a cold morning day..thus my reason for a rebuild.. so i would say there are probably a bunch of b235rs with 170k + with good stock pistons and rings..
well tuned engines are fine...

if it runs (and drives) well why sell it, if you keep up with it and change the oil w/synthetic when you should..do you have any sludging problems or tranny problems?...just because it burns a little oil shouldnt be a reason for selling your viggen.. what other problems are you having with it ?? if your not handy fixing little things i know of a couple shops here in new england that would gladly help you keep your viggen on the road.

i plan on keeping my viggen for quite awhile longer if not a couple more decades. . it is still my favorite designed car on the road to date, its so fun to drive and no one believes that its a 99' nevermind w 170k!!.

get the thing detailed, fix the stupid little things and drive it . . you would probably get more for parting it out then selling it anyways without any major work done. . unless you find that certain someone thats its worth something too.

so if you do sell it, it is a car that needs to be seen, dont trade it by any means and ask what you think it is worth..they are a very desirable car and always will be.

stilll dont have the car back yet, i guess this is a good thing. . he is doing everything he see's that needs to be done or will soon need be while its all apart, even the tranny..and not charging me much extra. i cant say enough good things about this guy, i just wont know exactly how good until i pick it up.

now, after a rebuild what is the break in period ? i would assume there to be..
i haven't yet gone over this with him.
i will be getting a retune soon after i pick it up.. but what precautions should i take before i do this and drive spirited again.
