Wow. I recently returned from a trip to the great state of Montana. A few Days in Missoula and a few in Glacier Park.
A bunch of trails in Glacier were closed due to bear activity. A few days earlier, Jack Hanna (of tonight show, Letterman and Columbus zoo fame) had to spray a Grizzly that was charging him. (We ran into him at the hotel and had a chance to discuss the incident)

So, our master plan was altered and we had to hike some different areas than planned. Along one of the trails near Grinell lake we ran into this guy having lunch.

At less than 10 yards it was an awesome sight.

Earlier we had this guy pose for a few photos.

For just a few moar pics, including the Uncle's impressive "horn room".... click here.

Oh wow! That's a park that's on the top of my list for a visit one of these days (during a trip that will finally, finally knock off North Dakota).

Fantastic photos. You didn't, by any chance, drive this while you were out there, did you?

Yes. Twice. The first time was in a driving thunderstorm (hail included). It cleared just in time for a short hike at the Logan's pass visitor center up to hidden lake.
The road is much improved since our last trip (2002). It was downright scary on that time.
I am in awe. Is it as spectacular as they say it to be?

Yes. Photos don't even begin to show beauty.
Unfortunately I was driving a 2009 Chrysler T&C mini van with 6 people and all the associated gear. So, enthusiastic driving was out of the question.
Monday morning we had to make up some time (we were late for a helicopter tour on the other side of the park some 50 miles away) We took a detour around the south side of the park. 50MPH in 25 MPH zones with sheer drops, no guardrails, roaming cattle, assorted wildlife, hairpin curves, logging trucks and driving a loaded mini van made it an experience.
Montana rules. My dad's from there. Amazing state.
Awesome - where was Rocky hanging out? Looked like a great time.
I've been to Glacier before and driven the Going to the Sun Road...on my list to visit again. I recall pea soup fog, snow, etc in the middle of July. :)
I love Montana, nice state. We have moose like that roaming our front yard here in AK too, I was 15 minutes late for work once because one of them decided to stop on the end of my driveway and wouldn't move...
I thought Jack was at the San Diego Zoo, or am I thinking of somebody else?

Damn - I'd have a hard time aiming a fire arm at that little varmint... then again if was a hunter I'd have that little bugger stuffed and put on display :)
