So I was in buying a wiring harness to hook up Bluetooth in my vintage 9-5 last week and had a word with one of the salesmen I used to work with. He knew my folks' lease was up on their M04 and suggested that they come in and drive the M07 Anniversary Edition 9-3. Doubting that they would oblige to such an offer, I asked for numbers anyway and brought the info back to my folks.

Due to my parents', um, unfounded discontent with a certain moderator's father who happens to be sales manager at said dealership, I was put in charge of procuring the M07 344ASR Anniversary Edition in Fusion Blue. Mom wasn't sure if that was the blue she liked or not... she used to have a Midnight Blue 9-5 (no longer available), knew it wasn't Nocturne or Cosmic blue, so she said it must be Fusion Blue.

This morning I went to the dealership and by some sort of miracle, the car she wanted had arrived on the truck that weekend and was ready for delivery. I had the salesman write up the final numbers and I told him I'd send her in for a test drive and to finalize the deal later today. Hours pass and I decided to call Mom because, shit, I wanted in on some test drive action too! Well she had already been there, signed the deal and will be taking delivery on Thursday morning. Then she said the coolest thing I think she's ever said to me... "It's still not the blue I wanted... remember that 9-3 they had a few years ago, it only came in that color?" "Viggen?! Lightning Blue" "Yeah, it was like an electric blue!" Mom, despite her inability to drive standard had a thing for the Viggen! Now I see where I get it :)

Hehe, my mom is thinking about replacing her 1999 9-3 with either a Viggen convertible or a 9-5 aero wagon. She test drove a lightning blue vig 2 weeks ago, but decided against it because of the mileage (75k). After she drove my new 9-5 Aero, she said "damn, why isn't my Saab that fast?!"
I hope your mom likes her new car!

Is your mom going to surrender the car as an unofficial GES test car? That'd be pretty hot. I hope to see it sometime-- I'll be in Exeter w/ the cute friend on Friday picking up Brutus (Sis' new dog).

My mom even said if I had to do any research on the Blacktie radio that she'd be more than happy to lend it. Cute friend... giggity :)

Bump.

After the past few weeks of this car tempting me in the garage, I finally got to put a significant number of miles on it this morning when I brought my folks to the airport. Prior to this morning, I had only had a 9-3 out on short test drives a handful of times -- never truly able to gauge its capacity as an everyday driver.

My God, if I don't have a European Delivery order in for a 2009 9-3 XWD Aero in by this time next year, somebody slap me. For a Sentronic 2.0T, the car was very fast and compliant at high speeds. I made it a point to really punch it through some tight ramps just north of Boston and it was nothing short of stellar. Where this is an anniversary package car with Aero seats, I felt refreshed after getting out of the car. The Bose audio system is beyond my wildest dreams... I had XM-8 on (80's) and just as I was getting up to speed merging onto NH-101, Dire Straits' Money For Nothing started. So naturally, I cranked it up as this song is usually my benchmark for how well an audio system can cope with sudden changes in sounds (light vocal crescendo with synth effects leading into some heavy drums, in this case) and I was blown away.

So overall, me likey... only a matter of time before I have one too.

It is funny you say this as I am just finalising my purchase of a '07 SportCombi (1.75% lease and less then 4% over cost) and the salesman wants to know what my top colour choices are, I responded "whatever" and he almost doesn't believe me!! It was my humour for the day. Of the colour choices available I don't feel there are any bad ones. Though I am not a fan of white, it looks good with tinted windows.
