Confirmed spark loss? Sure it's not starving for fuel? Possible weak fuel pump not able to supply enough fuel, or bad FPR.
If certain it's a spark problem - start with a new DI (or spare) and see if that clears it up - plugs are OEM correct and gapped proper yes? Still no spark - check wiring for DI and backtrack from there. I'm not 100% on the 89 CD 9000's - it's NOT a TCS issue as they don't have TCS (no limp home to enter). If it's a 2.0L with Distributor - check there. Could be a bad connector on the distributor or even a worn cap/rotor combo. Wires could be arching... and so on. A few things to check - so report back with findings
