Looking at suspension for the 9000. Need opinions.

Car is a '96 9000 Aero
I'm looking at getting all new struts and lowering springs, caster/camber kit, strut tower braces (f/r) maybe rear anti-roll bar.

I'm not looking to go way lower, I'm looking for function as I would like to road race this season, and I don't want a ridiculous ride.

What struts should I go with? Bilstien HD, Monroe Sensatrac, Koni? Other brands that are better?

And springs. I was looking at getting the Kilen 25mm springs, but I can only find them over-seas. (Elkparts) Are there other places that carry those or springs in general? I can't find any suspension parts on Genuine Saab.

What do you all suggest?

Koni are nice if you can swing them. I have Bilstein HDs on my Aero and that are pretty nice for what I do, stiffer would be neat if I were to get real serious. i have Konis adjustables in my 9-3 and I love them.

For springs...I can't really suggest any in particular, but if I were to purchase again I would go with a coilover tube and set them up that way in front as opposed to getting off the shelf lowering springs.

I can only comment on my Jamex springs, which are not overly stiff, they do a good job of lowering the car, but other than that I'm sure sure how much the differed from the 3/4 coil trimmed Aero springs I had before.

I've got Bilstein HDs w/H&R springs on my car, front stb, stock sway bars (rear has poly bushings), 17" wheels.

The ride is quite stiff, but tolerable. In the twisties the car feels quite balanced.

I can live with stiff, just not so much it bounces. MN is full of pot-holes, especially on cloverleaf on/off ramps.

How much of a drop are the H&R? I like the Kilen springs because they're only about an inch, I don't really want much more.

Poly bushings worth the money? I was thinking that, but with the number of bushings they have listed, it could run well over $100 for just bushings.

Thanks for the help guys.

Bushings are definately worth it. It will integrate all the other suspension upgrades listed in a much more direct and solid fashion, which is enough to justify the price. Besides, in the grand scheme of things how much is $100 in comparison to the money invested in the suspension ;)

It's about 1/5 the cost of the suspension, to me that's a lot when I'm already planning on around $600 for the struts/springs/camber bolts alone, add another $150 on top of that, I could just go with the Koni coil-over kit. ($800+shipping)
I'll get them for sure.

Do the stock brakes hold up pretty well to the track, or should I go slotted w/Hawk HPS pads?

Where is there a Koni coilover kit?! I've never seen an actual coilover kit for a 9000.

And like crowley said, no point in using slotted. They do not increase braking performance. Best thing you can do is get a good pad that is suited to how you intend on using the car. I have been on EBC Redstuff for the past 3 years, they have worked well for me in the winter driving, hot weather, autocross, track days, etc.

It doesn't bounce. The H&Rs are 40mm drop I believe, 30mm on an Aero. The good thing about the H&Rs is that they're progressive.

The only poly bushings on my suspension are the rear arb. The rest are kind of pointless. Rear control arm bushes maybe...but my opinion was they transmitted too much road vibration into the steering.

Don't waste your $ on slotted rotors. Brembo flat faced rotors w/good pads are just fine.

I have Kilen springs on my 9000. Nice compromise between lowered looks and ride quality. I got mine from eeuroparts, but I don't see them listed anymore. You might want to call them if you're interested. Combined with KONIs, strut brace and an assortment of poly bushings I can't complain about the ride. I usually keeps the KONIs on the softer side for everyday driving, but it still handles quite nicely. It doesn't take long to adjust them either. Once tightened, the car feels much more focused.

Ordered the Bilstein HD struts, all four new, and MOOG tie rod ends. (one's shot)

Still undecided on springs.

justin.graeff- The fronts aren't in the best shape, springs are yours once they're out.
If you want everything, just let me know.

I have HR springs and koni shocks, sas sway bars front and rear, and strut mount. The rear shocks are on full hard, and the front is full soft, for experimental purposes. The front can def be a little bouncy over the right kind of road :p

The HR springs aren't bad, but i've been considering trying Abbott springs in the future :D

I just received my abbott springs. They look really nice. They were $380 shipped from the UK to Calif. I think this is a really good deal as the exchage rate is really low these days.

I could not believe how fast I got them. It was like 2 days.
