Jzw tuning / other options

Greetings.

I am looking to flash my ecu; preferably stage one. The best option I am finding is the hand held tuner made by JZW Tuning. I have read other forums and he appears to be quite reputable. Anyone use this company, or another? Is it recommended to replace suspension? Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Not a single complaint or hiccup in the 30k miles we have had the JZW tune on our '11.
it may be better to find somebody local to your area, that way you can have your car checked out prior to tuning

Where are you located?
I've looked at a bunch of "tunes" and if I didn't do my own stuff I'd call Nick at Taliaferro Imports, Inc. or get a hold of my buddy Steve Hayes, (I think he still does some tuning on the side); heard some good things about MikeD too, although I've never looked at his tunes personally.

Nick at Genuine Saab has his own dyno and data acquisition system where he's able to test/verify/trial things and he understands the theory behind what he's doing and doesn't just crank things. He knows how to read a compressor map and knows what it means too, lol.

My Nordic tune from Nick was a miserable experience-helped me walk away from my Viggen without looking back. It is not the same thing as Nick doing the tuning obviously.

I don't know about your experience specifically, and I don't remember you mentioning a crap tune when you were selling the car lol....but yeah the old stuff was pretty bad, and expensive! $1000+ for some BS crap tune was the reason Steve and I started ecuproject. Up until then everyone was locked out and we were all at the mercy of the price-fixed and price gouging european options that weren't even good at half the money.
Is Steve Still around?
He did my original tune. I've wanted to get in touch with him for a while, but thought he fell off the face of the earth.

Mind shooting me a PM with his email?
He's out here in Los Angeles, posts on our LA Saab Club facebook group quite a bit, and is still flashing tunes for people when he has a chance.
Thanks for the outpouring of help its much obliged. I am located on the Southwest side of Houston, TX. Everything in grade A condition except for possibly suspension. Traction failure light has been on for liKE 2 years could just be error but nevertheless I wanted to replace suspension soon because I drive it like I stole it most of the time :-D

I kept my Nordic experience largely off the boards to avoid flaming/drama. A handful of people got the story first hand instead.

The stalling issue was noted when I sold the car.

I had $1500 invested in my Nordic tune and over $5-7k spent at GenuineSaab. I wound up never having a properly running car.

A lot changes in a decade. No more $1000 for a poorly developed tune. Supposedly my issues came down to my car being a '99.

I like in the same State as JZW and he's really known for his tunes. But I messaged him a couple of times on here with no answer. I agree with Mike D you might want someone closer to you that can road test your car also and really get it set up for you. Drew in Houston is in the Same city as you. Don't you do tunes also Drew. I can say that Ive gotten alot of questions answered for me from guys on here. And I wouldn't hesitate to trust Drew in Houston, Mike D, JZW, or Dew either.
Had my Nordic/genuinesaab tune for 60,000 plus miles.... Never a issue....

My viggen has the stage 3+ tune with all necessary upgrades plus t5 cams and a 6cm-18t turbo

Most tuners went through difficulties when they were new into the business.... Poorly running.... Blown engins etc....
Brew City Boost!

We also have a handheld tuner and if there isn't anyone local who can road tune, we can still fine tune things via email that way..... plus you get a second tune free with the Handheld...

I heard Steve Hayes name in here too.....He's a solid tuner and stand up guy as well!

really check over the car, i have had many people think there car is top notch when they come to see me, and soon found otherwise. Thankfully i did so before the tune so major issues were avoided.

Everybody who tunes cars professionally can probably vouch for how much time is spent helping customers debug hardware in hopes to get the most out of the software. Its just part of the game

Thanks for the kind words, but nope, I don't generally do tunes for people. There's just not enough hours in a day. Maybe someday though!
I'm the jzw train... don't have a car now with his tune.. but my previous experience with him was a very pleasant one..

Had a very strong stage 3 with him... then went to a holset hx35 in my 9000... I did run into issues with that tune... that we never solved till years later when John contacted me randomly to let me know the next tune is free and he had figured it out

Jzw has always come through for me... even when a couple of the other well known names on here couldn't figure out my issue and blamed jzw tunes... When it turns out it was an ecu issue...

That's my 2 cents
Theres also Tuning by MPS. Mike is a great guy. Knows his saabs and has a great price on his tunes
Check out brian at vtuner. If you are in the northeast he does sweeps thru certain areas. When he was in Albany he did my '06 9-3 sc in person for half what others cost.
