Just wanted to post this and wasn't sure where, as the original post from a week ago was locked because the resident site troll shit all over it.
That being said, I just wanted to say that Adam K., (V1009DZ) was a stand up guy on a whale tail I grabbed from him this past week. Couple hundred miles driving and arrived to no surprises. The wing had me smilin' the whole way home. As I said, just a tip of the cap in the general direction of Adam. Thank you.

PS: Here's a pic, (a dark one) of the secret whale tail exchange vehicles..... Cheers, Bob T.

Adam is as stand up as they come! I was bummed I couldn't snag the whail tale for my 85, but have had bigger fish to fry as of late. Enjoy it Bob, I'm sure you'll do a killer job of fixing it up.

One of these days we New England guys need to find an excuse to set up some sort of gathering. Still dissappointed I had to miss SCD.

Is that at the Larz Anderson site every year, or was that just the location this year? I had no idea this year, but would def. be there next year. Putting faces with the names on this site is like finally seeing a radio DJ. It's never quite what you expect!
Next year's ride there will be sitting under this whale tail:winky: Cheers, Bob

What exactly is the benefit of the whail tail?

I mean besides another mechanism to trap water and cause rust; why?

I never understood putting one on a car... Doesn't the hatch already have a more conservative spoiler on the boot? Why so oversized and gaudy?
Is it attention you seek, cause the car is already red.. And looks nice as is..

Just curious

PS

I must say your one selfish bastard. 4 cars in tho driveway and not one for the little lady...

Lol

Yes SCD happens every year late August at the Larz. It used to be in October but the weather was always way too hit or miss. August has worked well aside from the one year Irene came to visit and they had to postpone. The event has been in danger of going away, but eeuroparts and Charles River SAAB/Boston Volvo have done a great job of keeping it alive the last few years.

Adam is truly one of the stand out guys in our community I remember back in the day driving up there for free interiors and an engine and more recently the beryl spg he was selling. Like the op said no surprises either time and a great guy to work with!

As usual, your arrogance is only exceeded by your ignorance. The 9000 was co-developed by Saab, Lancia and Fiat. There's very little GM DNA in that car, which completely kneecaps your usual feeble argument.

Sigh.

There's so, so much you don't understand and precious little time to explain anything to you. Quick answer that you might stand a chance of understanding, like a small child trying to catch flies barehanded, is that the increased downforce from the larger wing helps high-speed stability. Without a spoiler, the rear end starts to get light at 90-100 mph. The stock turbo wing ensures stable speed up to 120 mph. The whaletail was engineered for long high-speed highway runs at 120+, as on the autobahn.

Now go away.

It traps water which will then freeze, pulling it apart from the inside (physics FTW), it makes the hatch heavier than hell, makes dirt road dust collect like wild on the underside of the spoiler, causes the rear hatch shocks to die frequently, and obscures your rear vison a bit. Also makes it so you have to drill your hatch for the extra mounting holes which will probably bleed rust if not pepped right, ruining your paint.

You asked for the truth, there it is. Some prefer the visual appearance. Imagine that, someone preferring something so impractical just for the heck of it. Whale tails make people smile.

Since it doesn't rain a significant amount in Florida, you have no rear hatch, your trunk opens with spring assist, you probably don't drive dirt roads frequently, you already have a horrific blind spot & rearward visibility and your car has no real paint to ruin, then I can completely understand your skeptical view of a whale tail.

Enjoy it Bob; it was a pleasure to meet you. Do keep in touch.

Idiot.
