How much of that $2300 was parts? used Trans or Rebuilt? Any warranty on trans?

Figure the "average" rebuilt trans cost about $1600

Labor on a trans in your car is about 5.5 hours out and back in only. (@80hr = $440)
When I was looking at replacing my automatic I was quoted 4-6 hours plus the replacement tranny. I was told the cost of a rebuild wasn't worth it compared to getting a decent replacement.
You can look at eBay for costs of used trannys. Then add 20% if your shop is buying it.

In my situation, the bad tranny coupled with an engine drinking coolant I had it converted to manual using the engine and tranny out of another car.
I wouldn't bother getting your trans rebuilt. You're better off with a good used one out of a low mileage car. I got a 60k mile 9-3 box last year for my 900 from Goldwing...1 year warranty, shifts like butter.
I was quoted about 900-1000 to get a 1999 9-3 trans rebuilt and then figured +500 to have it taken out/put back it.

I was also told that was a pretty darn good quote.
Shifts like butter, haha love it! Yeah I'll look around. I get free labor think my dad is trying to make a few bucks off me. And telling me to stick with T5
I bought a new tranny (non-Viggen), Quaife LSD and GS short shifter. With installation it came to just under $5K CDN last year (about $4,500 US at the time but almost the same now).

The new transmissions have all the latest upgrades including the new crush sleeve. Viggen transmissions are identical to regular 9.3 but differential and output drivers (used old ones) differ.....costs much more than swapping in a Quaife!

Love the feeling of the new transmission with the short shifter. Really don't want to go there again!!!!
Did a used tranny swap on a 97 900SE last week at work for a no reverse condition.

Trans was 425 used, 140k unit

Labor came to about 360$ (6 @ 59)

Total bill with mtf 00063 fluid, seals, better used shift knob and an oil change came to about 950.

We should charge more for everything.

You wouldn't be able to survive down in these parts for that kind of labor rates.... must be nice up there. $80/hr is the AVERAGE around here in the suburbs of Philly. Higher dollar areas are OVER $95/hr and I've seen as low as $60/hr in Philly - but those shops aren't worth that rate....
