HELP I am stuck in France.

Hi . I hope this is not too longwinded but I have been struggling with this for the last 3 weeks.

My car a 1991 9000 2.3 turbo was origanally sold in Germany. I have owned it for about 8 years and all of that time it has been kept garaged in France, where I use it during holidays , both winter and summer. Provided the battery is disconnected it will start on the first turn of the key even after 12 months of idleness,

In all of these years it never let me down and apart from an oil change ocassionally it got no maintenance what so ever.

Last January I serviced it thouroughly and drove it 1300 miles to Poland where I had a new exhaust system , brake pads and a few other minor issues remedied as well as a thorough underbody rust treatment and general cleanup.

I drove it back and parked it, 3 weeks ago I came out for a short break, the car started first go as usual, and I used it for a few trips to the shops locally.

I went for fuel the next day and it started and drove out of the service station, and went for perhaps a mile up the road before it came to a halt.

It would restart but refused to idle or even stay going unless the throttle was nursed carefully.

It is exactly the same now.

what I have done. Checked the vacum hoses and replaced many, Replaced the fuel filter, Replaced the fuel pump, replaced the DI cartridge, replaced the crank shaft sensor.

There are no fault codes flashing on the dash/ check engine light.

Today in a fiy of desperation we began to pull fuses in the hope that we could find something that was blown, when I pulled the fuel pump fuse the car reacted immediately by idleing properly and the tcs light went out, and it seemed to be exactly normal until the engine died from lack of fuel.

We restarted it with the fuse in place and repeated the experiment and it seems that provided the pump is switched on and off the engine operates fine.

Has anyone any suggestions to repair, or even is it possible to put the car into limp home so that I can get it back to my garage, the local tow people want €200 to move it.

Please help.

Sounds Like a bad air mass meter (AMM), Either that or a intercooler hose popped off so the AMM isn't metering the air properly.

Sounds like you checked the Vac lines and such so that is a good start. Go over the intercooler hoses and see if you can find someone to borrow a AMM from to see if that problem.

Thanks I am trying this.

This morning when it was very cold the car started fine and ran for a few minutes until it then cut out, By working the accelerator up and down constantly I was able to move the car a little. Holding it right down the revs refused to rise but by allowing the pedal up again and puting it down smartly the revs were induced to rise.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
