A few days ago in a hick bar in B'ham, AL. Ordering a beer and (thank God) my accent always makes heads turn. So this GENUINE southern girl starts talking with me. After a few minutes and a couple of beers, the chat goes into cars.

- I probably have the only not-truck parked outside.
- What do you drive?
- A Saab.
- A Sawhat?
- A Saab, it's Swedish.
- From Detroit?
- No, from Europe.
- Is that a country?
- So, where are you from again?

Today, at the Piedmont Triad International in Greensboro NC, I'm exchanging my rental for a 4x4. So they give me a Laredo (the only 4x4 available) and the girl tells me:

- Do you see these + and - symbols next to the D(rive)? Move the stick to the left (-) for 4x4 driving or to the right (+) for normal driving.
- Riiiiiight, thanks!

I LOVE THE SOUTH!!

EDIT: removed something that shouldn't be there /sorry

That's okay. When my Grandfather died almost 30 years ago, I drove my Saab 99 at the time to Detroit in the middle of winter for his funeral.

"Is that one of them Jap 'Subu's' (sic)" was the question I always was asked.

"Umm, no, it's Swedish," I reply. "And it's a Saab."

"Funny, it don't look like a Volvo," they comment.

"That's because it isn't. It's a Saab."

"I thought Subu's (sic) were Japanese."

The south does not have a monoply on stupid. In fact, stupid is everywhere. Intelligence is everwhere, too. It's just who you happen to be talking to at the time....

My wife is from the South, western North Carolina, she only drives a stick and keeps asking me when I will modify the Turbo X so it makes some decent power. Here is a pick of her and me at the track. They are not all clueless.
