I don't believe the filter I've got is what comes with the intake.

 

On the end where your rubber red intake pipe meets the shiled, is there a bead in the metal pipe like there is on the side where the filer attaches?

Never had any problems with that kanaflex coming off there.

 

I don't remember if there's a bead, but it's really not necessary...

That's a not a high-pressure connection

 

Yeah, on mine the pipe is also not round on that end, it's bent, almost into a squarish shape rather than round.

I just looked on GS's website and it looks like its 2.75"

Here it is on my T7 after 2yrs in all MN weather:

 

I took an old c900 pipe, the larger diameter aluminum one that goes from the IC to the throttle body. It fits that hose from the turbo, makes a 90* angle and ends with 2 3/4in piping. I had to cut a couple inches off the bottom to clear the hood as its too long. The pipe was just some 2 3/4in mandrel bent pipe. I am about halfway through making the fence.

Cost so far:
-Filter: 40
-Pipe: 30
-Fence: 20

wow, 90 thats not as cheap as I was thinking, but i have had the filter forever, so ill call it 50

Just another alternative to paying $100-$200+ dollars for some piping and a metal shield.

I have always wondered why people do not turn the filter the other way, and have it be right under the headlight.

From looking at my car, it would seem to get much more air in that position.

With the stock airbox out of the way and a 3" OD piece of 2" long tubing with a big k&n on the end of it, and it is right below the fog light. gotta be the coldest air

...or a 9000. Straight length of 3" from the compressor housing to a big K&N out in the fender, right behind the foglight as well

pfft, you can't get more 'open air' than a 9-5 without having it hanging on the side of your car.

 

I agree with Tikka here, unless you guys just pull the passenger headlight out and drive like that.

Unfortunately for you guys, I removed my fog lights for better airflow...definitely not cause one of the mounting tabs broke on the passenger side!

I really honestly have no clue why most people turn it around, i recently hydrolocked this car, so it makes me feel warm inside having it as high as I can. I should point it forward towards the gapping hole though once i feel the rain isnt a nemesis anymore.

 

Ok, back on topic. Is this normal for a FS intake or do you guys think I got a reject? I noticed on the GS website, the weld is nice and goes all around the pipe on the heatshield. Mine is just 4 welds.

 

If it were me, I'd call and see whats up.

 

I e-mail GS with the pics a couple days ago, have't heard anything back as of yet. Maybe if Nick in on the forum today he can chime in.

 

No thats far from normal and deffintely not of the normal high quality GS is known for having. Hopefully you hear back from Nick soon.

 

What I have received from GS has been quality product. That is not. Maybe your UPS driver owns a Saab?
