I have a saab 9-5 2.0 LPT that is fitted with a Garrett GT17 turbo but ive got the chance of picking up a 2.3 aero witch will be fitted with a mitsubishi turbo i asume? Can i do a straight swap of turbos as mine is on its way out. the 2.3 aero will be sent to the junk yard or sold on with my turbo on it.

Basic question:
Can i do a straight swap with no ecu change/remap?

Edit: just found out that the 9-5 aero is indeed the 250bhp HOT.

The question is still the same, im not looking to get the 250 bhp i just want a working turbo and may get the ecu sortted at a later date

So to recap:

i can swap the turbo and coolant lines and everything else with no issues and it will still run as it should :)

Cheers

Your car and original ecu will run okay with the td04, but boost maps are different between the 2 turbos. To get the most from the td04 (aero turbo) either swap ecu's (you'll need a tech2 to program it to your car) or have your original ecu tuned for the td04.

If i scrap the car i will be taking the ECU out the aero and in the future getting it put on mine.

How do i prime the turbo with oil Prior to fitting

Wont be able to do the ECU straight away but i will need the donor car out my drive ASAP thats why i wanted to know if i could fit the turbo and use the car untill i can get the ECU put on.

Thanks for the info about priming, seams fairly simple.

You want to make sure there's a film of oil coating the journal bearings before the engine is restarted. Pour some straight engine oil into the oil inlet and plug the return with your finger. Spin the wheel a few times, then let the oil drain out.

That should leave oil on the journals and prevent excess wear at start.

You'll be priming the entire engine with oil anyway by removing the fuel pump fuse and turning over the engine a few times...

Thanks mike, this will be my first time swaping turbos over. Hope all goes well. Is there a write up or guide i can follow to keep me right as i do the swap?
