does anyone know of a fast or the fastest C900 drag car in the US?(that is accualy a saab C900 powertrain not a transplant) iam wondering if i can shoot for that title.... for the past couple weeks ive been gathering parts and planing to make my Holseted C900 into a full drag car. i was thinking there arnt very many C900's doing the 1320' for good reason, and i dont want to be told i will be eating transmissions.....no shit. but anyways i think it would be cool to have the fastest 1320' C900. so far i got some sticky yokohamas 195/50/15 mounted the smaller tire make the car launch wayyy easyer and to gear it down iam going to put #6 primarys in it out of a spare tranny i have to get the 2cd gear launch. i was planing on welding the diff too. i also stripped the interrior even more and installed a aluminum racing seat, witch might i add fits purrrfectly on the stock seats sliders

That isn't a C900 with a non fwd engine config. It might be considered a wolf in sheep's clothing but it's a bad wolf and completely abhorant.

Real C900's have fwd and a genuine Saab engine.

The fastest that I have heard of was a c900 down in Kansas City that was owned by Brad at Georges Imports.

It was stripped to the bare minimum, drag radials, and was an auto w/ a custom high stall converter. I believe he was down in the 13's.

ive wondered about putting an Auto box in the car but there only a 3spd and i wonder if its really any better than the 5spd

width doesn't matter as much as compound, more important smaller tires will lead to a higher trap speed.

tom,, you may be better off adding mass in the front,, youll need all the help you can get hooking up,,

put NA springs in the rear to shift load forward, remove the rear spoiler, give it a nos shot to help it spool,, i bet we can have it cranking into the 12s before you start to pick up the dead tranny remains

my metal bars in place of the shocks will do that just fine. i have been looking into some nos, remember MS has launch control and flat shift!!!!! 12's here i come haha

the reason i have thos tires on it right now is because its what i had laying around,, there small and light and surpriseingly they hook up really good even when i dont put any heat into them and when they do spin is very gradual. plus i think a welded diff would make a WORLD of a differance as far a grip goes. plus i got to get a line lock....

iam not even going to run suspention in the rear.. two soil bars in the back to replace the shocks.. zero rear end squat. full weight tranfer to the front i may put some adjustable Hiem Joints in the rear for some extra adjustablity

yes i found more interrior to strip out... haha rugs, centerconsol, door panels

my next plan of attack is get the #6's in the tranny, and pull the HVAC unit out of the car, weld the spider gears in the diff, remove the front bumper core and the rear bumper completely, lexan windows, oohh ya and get a frickin FMIC in the car

i will try to get some pics up hey if i cant beat 13's i'll probly have the faster C900 on the east coast i could live with that...

this is going to be fun...

you may run quicker with the type 7s in,, unfortunately you simply can not shift these cars fast,, if having the longer gears saves you one shift, i promise it will be quicker down the lane

i think i will be better with the #6 personally the 60ft is the most important that faster i can get out of hole i hope the turbo and upped revs will carry me throught the traps. plus i should be able to launch the car in 2cd witch would eliminate 1st all toghter leaving just 2-3-4 bouncing of revlimiter through the traps haha. plus there easy enuff to change soo i do some test and tune with them

Thats nothing. I had a Rabbit drag car and use all 5 gears in the 1320. I was near redline in 5th when I crossed the line.

And to the original poster:

The AT with only 3 gears is better because the less gears you have to shift, the better. And the AT can shift gears faster and with fewer mistakes than you can.

I'm with others on the 195's. That is far too small a tire. You need to go with 205's at the least, I would even try to run 215's. Now this story may change with slicks because the slicks need to me small enough to spin up for a better trap speed.

X2 on the auto tranny with a high-stall convertor. If you're feeling real creative, try to put a manual valve body in there. Won't be much fun to drive on the street, but an autobox takes a lot of possible error out of the equation. Buick Grand Nationals and the fastest mini Mopars all run auto trannies. Don't forget the LSD.

Also X2 on the solid rear mounts, but only if the track you frequent is well maintained. With a solid rear, any road imperfection will throw the car off line--bad. A friend who runs 10's in his Plymouth Reliant rigged his car with very stiff springs and shocks, but welded in some bosses to add a solid bar in parellel to the shocks for the track.

you may want to consider using the nos to cool the IC as well... set up a seperate spray to cool it.. that would help you fend off heatsoak. as even with a massive IC doing drag runs is going to hit you with soak and the spray would alleviate that and be pretty simple and cheap to do if you already are doing nos..

i dont know if this would still count as a saab powerplant but ive been thinking about swaping the engine around cutting out the flore and hooking up a brand new gm 2spd powerglide that i just got for free and narowing the heavy duty ford 9inch that i have and puting them in. but then i woud be stealing parts from my other project. the guy that i got the tranny from said it was a backup tranny for his sand dragser he was running mid 8s with it, he even gave me the torqure converter i think it has like a 4500 stall or somthing crazy like that. its just a thought i dont know if making a c900 rwd would be cheating or not?

make it light, make it hook up, its already got the power, give it a front mount :) and maybe a spraybar for it? maybe consider water/meth, def no suspension and definately an lsd or welded diff, yeah id say put that sucker on a track and see where it stands. Those little civic hatches get into the 11s and theyre pieces of garbage id say we need someone to represent the c900...and that holset seems worthy :D....it should be sick

What sort of # runs/transmission ratio are you going for?

edit, and if you are going for weight savings get that damn sunroof assy out of there! Glass too...find something light and clear for the side glass, hatch too if you want to buy a really big piece :p

if you are planning on pusing that thing into the 10s you are going to atleast need a roll bar it is required at ets of 11.45 and down to 10.00 if you go faster then that you need to go with a full cage from 9.99 and lower ets. i would get a hold of a nhra rule book and make shure you will pass tec inspection and you dont get kicked out of the track for running to fast without the proper saftey items, there is nothing worse that puting an assload of time into a project to get it to a race and have it fail tec inspection, been there done that, lol. a buddy of mine in his camero has a 10.20 street car he made one pass up at bandimere and they kicked him out cause he didnt have a roll bar he was pretty pissed. just dont want that to happen to you.
