I know I had a thread about puddle lights a while ago but I am so happy with my license plate lights that I want to replace things like my brake light bulbs and reverse bulbs with their LED equivalents. I would obviously get wide angle bulbs for the brake lights so I dont blind people haha.

Is there any problem with doing this? I will get all OEM colors because I dont want to change the look, just want to update the exterior in these little details.

Im not sure about the wiring, made sure to check the wires for the license plate bulbs for heat and they were much cooler than with the stock ones.

On the second note:

Im planning on starting my bi-xenon retrofit, but will I have to deal with a bulb failure message? Im going to run Hella 3-R ballasts.

You may have to deal with a failure message, especially with the turn signals. In my old car, I would have had to replace the signal flasher with one made for LEDs because it was made for the resistance of a typical filament bulb, and would register as a burnt out bulb thus flash faster.

btw, what bulbs did you use for your plate lights? I took mine out and there were two different bulbs (both not working) so Im not sure which is the correct bulb... and I wanted to switch to LEDs anyway.

I don't think you have to worry about your wiring. LED's don't draw nearly as much current as an incandescent light bulb.

I think it would be cool to create full LED tails and not just insert a bulb.

Adub: if you get a purpose built LED brake light or turn signal, it has a resistor built in which evens out the voltage and completes the circuit (thats my understanding, I could be wrong)

SRP: The best I can do so far is to get a bulb that has a plate of LEDs on a square board, which will look much better than a set of leds just sitting in a circle. The only issue is clearance, since the bulb fits through a smallish circular hole to pass into the housing itself. I will have to think creatively though ;)

where are you getting these bulbs? can you pass on the info? i really want to convert all of my bulbs to LEDs too (been wanting to for a while) as the turn on quicker (i love the instant on/off of LEDs), are brighter, and last way longer.

good luck man..

Im getting them at superbrightled.com. Even if you dont get the bulbs from there, it has all sorts of information like cross references for regular bulb numbers to their LED equivalents and so on... Really helpful.

You guys might want to also check into superlumination.com...They have a huge variety of led bulbs, with a lot of variation in sizes, angles, etc...
