cut a whole over top of the assembly with tin snips big enough to take it out without dropping the tank... I've got it down to ten minutes if I have a whole fuel pump assembly to put back in... or maybe its 5 minutes...

i cut a hole under my rear seat to change my pump. it took more time to cut the hole than it did to change the pump. after reinstalling i did have minor issues with a slight gas smell when driving with the window down... minor enough that my wife couldn't smell it and only on a totally full tank. i put a layer of duct tape over the hole and haven't had an issue since
