Detonation

Hi guys, when it is really hot(23 degrees celsius), and i floor my car, i can hear it detonate very slightly for a second or two at the beginning of 2nd and 3rd gear as the boost comes in. When its nice cool weather, i cant hear any detonation. Is this normal due to heat? I have tried putting an octane booster in cause of our crap 95 octane fuel here in South Africa, and it seems to reduce the detonation in the hot weather. Weird, why?

I would do two things, run the ngk bcpr 7es-11 plugs and then set up your cooling fan to run all the time and that will help. You could always get a tuned ecu that will control the knock better with a richer a/f, etc.

good luck,

John

Thanks guys. Def need that tune as soon as i get some cash will be in contact with u John. In the meantime must i rather not drive it too hard when hot? Can that slight detonation cause a problem. Also i am scared of the bcpr7es plugs cause they seem to keep the boost up whereas the stock platinom plugs seem to cut back on detonation. Thats if the stock boost gauge is anything to go by? When i bent my valves from over revving i had bcpr7es plugs in. Am i just being superstitious?:p

lucky! 23C is hot for you!? it isn't weird for us to see 50C here in the summer sometimes...and my car runs fine. If you're getting problems at 23C, you might wanna do a little more digging...i dunno, just a thought.

as mentioned change the plugs and maybe try another di as they can play up sometimes.
also try getting your fuel from another garage id been using 99sul for ages but just stuck some 95 unleaded in the other night and it runs just as well need to do an adaption run really though.
