Coolant leak. Yay.

I'm about ready to kick this car off a cliff.

Last week I had to drop the gas tank because of those stupid clips holding the fuel lines on.

Then the DI went out on the test drive after I put the tank back in.

Put a black one in, seems fine.

Now the car is leaking coolant all over the damn place out the bottom passenger side of the motor.

I HOPE it's the water pump gasket.

It's probably not though, who am I kidding?

Damn car.

Yay. Water pumps are 140 from Eeuro.

Water pump gaskets are 4 bucks.

Crossing fingers.

Will know more tonight.
That's alright, I just ordered 900 dollars worth of stuff 5 minutes ago for my memere's 9-5 (her turbo shit the bed)..... eEuro makes some dough off of us. I have spent easily 7k with them.

If it's on that side of the car, it's more than likely related to the water pump.

How many miles? I re-did the water pump and o-rings @ 90K on my 9-3.

Even though $140 for a water pump sucks, that's cheaper than a lot of cars water pumps.

i had the same problem recently.. actually still a little bit of one (nothing on ground just that slight smell and buildup on one of the lines) Check the lower radiator hose that connection gets funky and the water pump. hope it is just the gasket though man...

Like I said before Andy, I've never seen a properly installed (or any) water pump gasket failure. It could be an O-ring going to the pump, or a pinhole leak in a hose, or like others have said, the pump itself.

All in all it will be between $10-150 to fix. Not terrible.

Mine leaked in that same general area as well. The o-rings were almost completely gone and the pump itself was starting to drip a bit as well. No biggie.

I've yet to do that hose from the pump>rad on mine and its just starting to seep a bit :( I should have been smart and done it the same time as the water pump :-?

Well, of the .75 square inches I can actually SEE of the GD water pump, all looks fine.

There is coolant all over the lines to the oil filter, so I assume the leak is coming from above that, seeing as how it's the forward most area I can see coolant.

Jesus H, they did not exactly make this shit easy to get to. I still have A/C, so the compressor is under it, and the GD power steering pump is right above it.

Arg.

I'm getting U/V dye tomorrow, and more beer.

So fuckin' annoying.

Do you have a pressure washer and some simple green at your disposal, to get the area ridiculously clean and then maybe try to figure out what's going on? It's helped me in the past when I have a bad leak and cannot figure it out.

sometimes shit is just too ridiculous with these cars. i just finished replacing my connecting rod bearings because they were really bad, one spun and i had a knock, and then the next day i lost reverse in my trans. but i couldn't get rid of the car, i've almost replaced everything.

anyway from my experience the o-ring seals for the water pump dry up and crack, but might as well replace the pump as well if you can afford it.

when i changed mine out i also replaced the radiator so it wasn't too bad to get at.

Well, the good news is the water pump failed like it was supposed to.

A nice steady leak, out the weep hole.

Yay.

JK came over, and we had it out in not too much time.

I also got to buy a 1/2" drive breaker bar for the tensioner, and JK bought (in the same store) a frozen pizza, and a box of lucky charms.

And since I feel like torturing myself, JK also flashed my new JZW tune on my car.

That will be another thread though, when I can drive the car.

It's looking like mid next week depending on shipping times.

haha, what kind of store were you in? Sounds like my kind of place!

Also, good to hear it was just the w/p.

Well, the store was what I envision a Russian "state" store to be like, minus the discount undergarments. It's called Menards, and it's a local chain.

10 feet from the lucky charms was 30 feet of nuts, bolts, and fasteners in stainless and chrome.

Another 50 feet from that was where you could buy a whole deck, you just had to put it together.

Anyway, waterpump.
Yay.

Andy if it makes you feel better I'm 85% confident my water pump failed on the Viggen last night as well.

This marks the first "problem" the car has ever had that I am aware of. Made it 104,xxx miles!

At least you didn't have to tow yours!

Knowledge tip: lowered Viggens won't make it onto a flat bed without scraping the front bumper. I cringed.
