I own a 1995 SAAB 900SE 2.5V6 auto cabriolet. When the car has been left standing, particularly in cold weather, the "Check Gearbox" indicator comes on when I engage drive (or reverse) and the car appears to go into "winter" mode.. i.e. a high gear. If if stop and restart the car several times, the problem goes away and the gearbox operates pefectly all day. Also, if I start the engine and let it warm up before I engage gear, the problem does not occur.

I have read several posts in other forums regarding this problem but I have not seen a definitive answer. Does anybody have one?

I am trying to avoid spending a fortune on main dealer diagnosis! This seems like a fairly common fault so presumably somebody has had it fixed! Is it serious and is it expensive?
