I raced one of those with a ton of mods in my aero. He had roller rockers, intercooler, smaller pulley, ecm reflash, headers and full exhaust. Still couldnt keep up, his words I got a supercharger but it can't beat no turbo hehehehehe, once they go turbo though those motors make some power.

240hp and I think 280lbs of tq. They run about 14.8 stock but they arent known for top end. They are very moddable with pulleys and other bolt ons. You can run 13's for under a grand. I prefer the GS to the Grand Prix GTP, more of a sleeper.

The only 3800SC I raced was in a Buick Riviera which is a bit heavier. My GT was still a bolt on auto back then, good for say 15.7 and 0-60 in 7.2 and we were dead even to 70mph from a dig.

Thats what I miss about my GT being an auto. With worn all seasons I have over 60 slips showing a 2.20 60ft time. With better tires and my current bolt ons I could have seen 2.10 60 fts while the Vig would be lucky to get 2.3 :(

Its the same thing with the GS, GM V6 car with an auto and FWD hook very well.

GS is the sc'd one with the L67 in it. Two of my former roomates from RIT had GTPs with some substantial mods, and they were quick. A kid we know out in Churchville (near Roch) has a red GTP w/ported m90, injectors, afc, cam, headers, ported heads, air-water ic, etc etc. Scary scary fast car (I rode in it), ran something like 11.8-11.9 at NYIRP. The kicker is it looks 100% bone stock...stock wheels, stock mufflers (on 3" pipe though).

Damn nice kill. My friend has a GTP and they are pretty quick. Ha he saw me reading this and called B.S on your story John.

my buddy had a gtx, basically a two door gtp SC'ed with chrome wheels blah blah blah... he was paralyzed from the waist down and drives modified cars around currently he drives a 10second ls1 trans am
anyway his gtx made damn good power but it still only ran like 13s i think. i think he mighta pulled off a 12.9

I'm very familiar with the Grand Prix GTP... it has lots of punch at any speed and it runs rather well. It will completely eat my Saab at low speeds, but my Saab will hold up with it around 100-160 km/h, then the Saab just passes it after 210km/h since the GTP has a speed limiter (deprogrammable).

I almost bought a cheap Regal GS (Supercharged model) at a very decent price. I like the style of the car, black with the chrome rims, dark interior, very stealthy. The handling was a little softer than the Grand Prix, but the speed limiter kicks in at 180km/h!

I should also be fair and let you all know he had a full system in the trunk and a passenger. Still walked him pretty bad. A more fair line up was me with my buddies 98 gtp, roller rockers, headers, 3in, pulley, ecm reflash, intake, and some other small things. From about 30-110, second I had like a half car on him I shift to third and he gained a bit ground and we were dead even.

I've raced one of these from a dig when I was driving my turbo home from buying it (threrad about it somewhere). It was pretty even because we stopped at 40 (too much traffic, inner city, too much worry on my part about policemen), and we all know how bad our cars are in 1st gear. However, if I would've gone harder up to a higher speed I know I would've slaughtered him.

I think those are naturally aspirated. Those might have been the series one 3800 which made like 165hp, but a lot more tq.
these ones are also available in supercharged form..... I had a college buddy that drove a 4 door regal from that model span and it was supercharged.... although the supercharger wasnt working properly so he took it off. It had leather seats and barely any miles... what a nice car though

Yeah sure, maybe he just put "supercharged" badges all over the car because he was jealous of your "turbo" ;) ;)

How does a supercharger break anyway... it doesn't have any oil pressure like a turbo or something

Maybe it sucked something up and it damaged part of the internal mechanism. If this can happen to turbos (ask me how I know....) then I imagine it can happen to superchargers as well.

Broken rotors, lack of oil in the snout where the spindle from the pulle drives the two gears to turn the rotors...plenty of stuff to break.

Yeah running it without oil for a long time can screw with it, but it shouldn't really leak out, and the screws could only break if you like dropped a hammer on them pretty hard... anyway just thinking aloud. A Rootes supercharger is a lot more "robust" than a turbocharger.

GS is crap.

Watch out for the GN. Turbocharged V6. You will be chunks in their stool if you try to take one on.

Buddy of mine has one and the torque is so strong on that car, the roof is cracking at the C-pillar. The later cars have a traction bar going from the live axle beyond the mid-point (center of gravity) to right next to the end of the transmission along the driveshaft tunnel to help it hook up. And this was standard factory gear...

Awesome car, regardless of crappy GM build quality...

That is an awesome post ! I'd hope nobody would be stupid enough to take on a GN. I saw a vid awhile back of one burning rubber on the dyno, scary stuff.

Stock they do 0-60 in under 5 seconds, if I remember correctly. My dad used to "pop their cherries" (his words ;)) as he worked at a Buick dealership and they were built 35 minutes from where we live... he was a Buick mechanic so he used to take them out for their first drives. He said they were crazy fast. He had the paperwork all filled out to buy one but just finished paying off another new car and didn't have the money... he regrets it to this day. Now if we can find a nice white T-Type that isn't too far (he doesn't like the black Grand Nats) he'll buy it. But it has to be BONE stock...

Speaking of Grand Nats, doesn't Zach have one, if I remember correctly?
