From Americas First Freedom:

Pizza Hut Deliveryman James Spiers thought he was making a routine delivery, but he was walking into an ambush. As Spiers approached, an armed man sprang at him with a gun, but Spiers, a concealed-carry permit holder, was no easy target. Police say Spiers struggled hard with the assailant until he able to produce his handgun. "It was a long ordeal...my life was, without a doubt, in danger," Spiers recalls. Spiers shot the suspect three times. The suspect fled and was arrested at the hospital. Pizza Hut summarily fired Spiers, a 10-year employee, citing a corporate policy forbidding employees from carrying firearms. To voice your displeasure, call Pizza Hut Corporate Offices at (800) 948-8488 or visit http://www.pizzahut.com/contactus/contactusform.aspx?l1=2024
Until they change that policy, I'll never eat or order from Pizza Slut!

Was it against corporate policy?

If so, then he stood grounds to be fired.

Pizza Hut can't thank him for being a hero if he is going to break corporate policy. It sucks, but if they give once...they will give on everything.

Glad he is alive.

The guy was a 38 year old delivery boy for a chain restaurant. It was high time for him to get a real job. Perhaps, this is a kick in the ass and he will finally move out of mom's basement.

The constitution also allows you to drink. How many jobs allow you to drink on the job?

Welcome to the real world.

I'm very sorry I posted this. I assumed that a group of Saab owners would be all about standing up for the little guy, not defending The Machine. I guess I was wrong.

I guess it's time you guys stop bitching about GM owning Saab.

Not defending this made up "machine" just pointing out that your logic does not follow how things actually work.

Ugh. Please try to understand that it does not. He is not forced to work there, he is not forced to be without arms if he chooses not to. Private business policy is different from the consitution. Seriously, it is. How do you think companies get away with firing fat models, or ditching people who say terrible things during meetings or whatever.

I'll be damned if I can up to the president of my company and mouth off to him and keep my job. Its not going to happen. Does that infringe on my freedom of speech? Honestly no idea, but no f-ing way would I be employed any longer.

Oh, also I agree with not buying from Pissa Hut because of the aformentioned shitty pizza they produce, so for me, whatever, not an issue, won't be buying from them anytime soon.

However, if I'm super paranoid and I feel like like ordering a pizza and want to be sure my delivery guy is not packin' heat maybe I'll give them a call.

I can't get my point across. so I give up.

Guy defends his life, guy gets fired. It's just wrong.
No, it's not.

Guy defends his life, guy broke corporate policy, guy gets fired for breaking corporate policy, not for defending his life.

PH's corporate policy is there to protect Pizza Hut. If Pizza hut allows drivers to carry, then Pizza hut is also liable to be sued and lose in court.

There is a good chance that the delivery driver will be sued by the robber and have to pay the guys medical bills.

It's corporate policy. Wrong? Ethically, I would say so, but the rules are the rules. He's luck to be alive. That is more important than being able to keep his job. Besides, with 10+ years experience, he can go work for Papa Johns.

I didn't make a "big ruckus", I made a post and a suggestion. Others took it off topic or out of context. So don't pin this on me, pal.

I have no problem with "comply and give up cash", but this guy was attacked by an armed person intent on causing him bodily harm. Thats where corporate policy stops.
