The AAC display barely works most of the time, but sometimes I can make out a couple symbols. Every now and then it will turn itself off. Other than the display it seems to work fine, all the buttons do what they're supposed to do.

The car does have an aftermarket radio which I've read can effect the AC. Should I check for anything or does it sound like I just need a new unit?

It's like with a 9-3 sid, the ribbon or whatever fires the display goes bad. BBA reman or the like probably fixes it.

Like Tweek said, it's the displays' data ribbon inside of the unit, it's developed a poor connection with it's contacts and isn't picking up the signals like it should as a result.

You can try to repair it, or follow Tweeks' advice and just replace it.
