Mine just pulls off on my Aero. It's just a tight cover over the reverse lockout mechanism.
Heavy leather work gloves and just pull real hard. If the knob separates it can cut pretty bad. You have to pull on the rev block part. Don't hit yourself too hard when it finally separates.
^good advise, bloody noses or black eyes can occure

Do you first have to release the 3 tabs of the reverse lockout ring, and let that drop, before tugging on it?
I've done it by wrapping a cloth over the knob, securing a vice grip over the cloth, and twisting upwards.
Wait...so the white plastic piece is supposed to come off with the shift knob? On mine just the cover comes off and if you twist it hard enough, it spins on the white reverse lockout piece.
