Haven't been around much lately, but I figured that it would be nice to give you kind people a quick update on what's been going on in my life. Cause you're concerned, I know.

I was off playing Air Force with my Guard squadron as we went through a week long exercise to prepare us for a big inspection coming our way in October. That was fun.... spent a week pretending to be in a deployed location, complete with simulated chemical and mortar attacks.

Now I'm getting ready to go to a deployed location.... hopefully there won't be too many chemical and/or mortar attacks ;)

I'll be in The Iraq for 60 days (roughly through mid-May) doing satellite communications-related stuff. I leave today (Friday) to go to Montgomery to finish my final outprocessing stuff, and then board a commercial plane Saturday morning. I'll spend the night in VA, and then board a military plane to take a roundabout route to the middle east on Sunday morning. I should be sufficiently jet-lagged after all that :-D

The pay-off? ~$9k (tax free) for 60-days of expense-free paid vacation. Can you say "disco potato time"? I sure can :-D

I don't know how much internet access I will have while I'm deployed, but I'll update this thread as I can with any news for ya.

Do you know what wing you will be working with? My wife is an Air Force officer working in satellite comunication, called AFOTEC.

Made it to Charlotte, and I'll be here for a few hours until the flight to Norfolk at 5:40 Eastern. It wasn't easy - we think US Air might be plotting against us. Flight out of Montgomery was delayed (and canceled, then uncanceled), so we had to rebook the second flight....

Oh, and the pilot must really like Charlotte's scenery, cause we circled the airport about eleventy bajillion times. I started recognizing trees out the window. It was lame.

Oh, and you apparently can't put ammo magazines in your carry-on. The nice TSA ociffer had to track down my checked A-bag luggage to stash them in there.... that was nifty.

Woopsie!

....to be continued....
