Why are they not available anymore? Have you talked to Brad at KC Saab? He's the one who makes them up.

 

Last I heard he was still doing a batch about once-per-year or so if he had enough interest, give them a call and see if they're gonna do it this winter to get ready for race season next Summer.

I can tell you exactly what springs they are from afco racing, and grab pics of the design for you, it's pretty simple. the rears are easy to make also, ill grab pics when i get a chance.

When I talked to brad, he told me the fronts are 9.5" 500lb springs, (by afco racing) with a 5.5" od. and the rears are 9.5" 650lb springs with a 5" od. (also by afco) The adjuster in the rear is a threaded cup made by afco. As for the front, it is something he apparently madewhich basically has two cups, on a threaded rod with a half inch drive to turn them. The front is hard to explain, ill grab pics since mine is in pieces anyway.

Here's what dennis built for us.

AFCO weight jack cup & jack screw. He modified the frame plate with the machined poly "donut". The rest of the parts are off the shelf. Up to you to determine which springs you need.

 

Yes, that is my design. With that weight jack and basket you use a 8 1/2" tall by 5 1/2" dia spring or it will sit too high for most. The problem is that 8 1/2" with a ground end and 1/2 turn coil is not popular, and finding a good selection of spring rates is tough. I got burned on a bad run of Southwest coil spring. One had failed on IJ, so I recalled the on the ones I had sent out, replaced them with Afco and paid for all the shipping.

I originally had Brad's springs, but did not like the galling that occurred between the bucket and the inside of the spring thus my own design.

I don't sell the full kit any more. I did sell a set of upper perches to IJ and he will just buy the Afco parts.

ok i spoke with Brad he said dont even bother and pointed me in the right direction with afco springs. BTW he's a great guy!

so i followed his directions and ordered 500# front and 650# rear with adjusters for the rear of the car

When I bought mine from Brad it was $600 front and rear. I sold my kit $350 front and $300 rear. The rear was the same as Brad's.

 

i just ordered my springs front and rear with rear adjusters for $310 from speedwaymotors, thanks again for you help Dennis!

 

Bringin this back from the dead, lookin at doin somethin similar my self, I see that 500lb spring rate is the lowest the have but isn't that SUPER stiff for a street setup or does it have to be to run it lowered? and my other question is with the afco 5 1/2 x 8 (even though I could only find 5 1/2 x 9) does any body have pictures of how low it goes all the way down?

 

i have my fronts in, haven't put it on the ground yet dew to the cold white stuff. i just got to do the back now

 

You know approx how much the spring compresses?

 

well there #500's in the front so for every 500lbs it compresses an inch, but when i put it on the ground i "jounced" the front end and it felt a lot stiffer!

 

"jounced"? and so each one prob compressed an inch maybe 2?

 

a "technical" term joining the words jiggle and bounce

Jounce is the British term for suspension 'compression', rebound would be 'extension'.

how much do you think this lowered your front end? any pics of wheel gap?

 

My adjustable jack screw and perch combo with 550#/inch 8 1/2" afco. Car in action

Static, center of the wheel to the wheel arch trim is 13 1/4" Full slam it drops to 12 7/8"

 

ive had them in my car since july 500's werent too stiff at all, brian k has them in his car too

 

yeah there soooo nice. much nicer than intrax. cornering is a friggin dream.

 

So do you need the custom perch for the front?

if i am correct, i see that i would need

1: Front Springs at 5 1/2 by 9 1/2 = 500# x2= $110
2: Rear Springs at 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 = 650# x2= $120(very limited quantities)
3: Afco Spring Perch x2= $60

correct?

 

Rears I think you need 5in id springs.
