I was wondering would it be a good idea to put a ceramic coating the compressor hosuing on our turbos? just trying to think of differant ideas to reduce the heat in our engines. thanks for any replies in advance.
Ceramic coatings (also known as Thermal barrier coatings) do not reduce heat. They do increase tolerance (of a coated part) to heat, and increase the life of the parts exposed to a high heat environment.
I used to work with a company that did these coatings on gas turbine engines and spent part of my time in the metallographic lab examining samples. The difference between a coated part and an uncoated part coming in for repair was very apparent.
