i just noticed that is leaking in between the block and gear box,
the gears are going in fine, the engine oil is at the line, i took the cover where the slave is and is full of oil.... any idea. the seal in the gear box???

How much does it leak?

If your rear main seal is toast and the check valve going to the PCV nipple is bad pressure from the turbo into the crankcase will blow oil out the seals when you're accelerating.

Could also be input shaft seal @ the transmission.

how does used motor oil get into your transmission? This is how it sounds to me when I read it.

If you are leaking motor oil from where the trans and the engine are mated - there is a GOOD change it's the rear main seal, however I would look into all other options first to ensure things are hooked up and working as they are intended so that there isn't excessive pressure forcing the leak.

That aside - if it's gear oil, it can be dealt with very easily. 1 Gallon of gear oil and top off as needed. This is how my 87' 9000 was - went though 1 gallon every 3 months. The fluid was a clean as it ever could be - and I knew it needed fluid when first and second gear needed a little effort to engage :) Aside from that you can run a 9000 gearbox on pretty much no gear oil and get around - previous owner of my 87' must have done this for months if not years.... gears all worked perfect and never popped out either.

n/a will have much shorter gear ratios so if you use it the acceleration will be faster but kiss your highway mpg's good by

You could have called Autobarn in Hartland, VT and got a gearbox for $250. They are one of the best indie shops around.

All joking aside, remember to take lots of pics when you swap the gearboxes, and don't forget to re-install that stupid little crescent-moon shaped plate with the spacer on it that goes between the oil pan and gearbox. I did, and I blew a testicle sized hole in the oil pan by trying to torque the fucking bottom bolt on.

Fair enough did you get any pics?

Just so I know where to look. I think mine is just a rear main though as its not a bad leak although stumbling across this thread has made me fear for the worst.

Are you doing the box swap yourself? If so do you need to take the motor out to get the gearbox out?

no i'm having a saab tech doing.
now if u look at the engine and gear box meets thats where the oil was leaking,
now i have heard that rear main seal leaks is a small amount of oil, like u describing.so that could be it...

Holy shit lol can see why you didn't weld it up. Kind of big isn't it. Is this picture inside the gearbox housing like on the right of that hole that gold thing is that the clutch slave and release bearing?

Was it leaking a lot?

You mean where the gearbox bell housing meets up to the block right next to the back of the oil sump cause thats where mines leaking but its a very slow drip.

Well I've only had the car a few weeks and changed the oil about 2 weeks ago. It hasn't really dropped at all. Like I said it is a very slow leak.

I will have to have a look through the cover where the slave is fingers crossed its not what has happened to yours.
There's a little oil around the sump and it looks like the sump needs to be resealed so I'm hoping its that or rear main at the worst.
