'94 White 9000 Aero - We Can Rebuild It Edition

Earlier this year, we had an incident involving the daily commuter White Aero.

The car was parked in front of my parents house, which is on a moderate incline. My father was loading some things into the back to bring over to my house. A series of events occurred which we are not 100% sure on, but the end result was this: After loading things and closing the hatch, he went inside. About 15 min later a neighbor knocked on the door, saying the car had rolled down the hill and crashed into a tree.

The explanation is still unclear - this car is an automatic. My father says he did not set the parking brake... and secondly, the shift lockout is broken. You can start the car in any gear, and remove the key without putting it into Park. (Although he did put it in Park). The theory is, some how slamming the hatch popped the car out of Park into (reverse? neutral?) and the car rolled backward down the hill into a tree. When he found the car it was in Neutral.

Anyway, it has sat for a while. We tore into it a bit but didn't seem worth fixing, so he kept it as a parts car. But now I am in need of a four-door auto winter beater. (Can't buy a car right now, long story). So we're going to fix this one. Besides the damage its a great car with tons of new parts and recent work done. I'm going to take the opportunity to make some changes to it, and have a fun fast daily beater until I can get a newer car that I want.

Here's a list of the work that needs to get done:
-New DS rear quarter panel
-New hatch
-straighten rear bumper area
-New rear bumper internals
-Tail light, decor panel, spoiler

And some changes I plan on making:
-Manual 9000 Aero TD04
-3" exhaust
-Software of some kind
-BOV of some kind
-Intake of some kind
-Tint
-Painted 16" Super Aeros (currently accepting suggestions for absurd colors)
-4ReelMedia corner lights (kidding... the car already has clear corners)

So here are the pics of the damage:

I'll update this thread with pics and stuff as we go along. Interestingly enough, the car's previous-previous owner (kaylan) may have a hand in the rebuild. Watch out.

That does look like a hard hit, for rolling on its own. The bucking on the 1/4 panel looks not a ton different than the hit my car took. Though, it looks as though the tree was a bit more gentle and didn't tear into the metal quite as much as a black ford taurus.

mySaab900 knows a good body guy. PM him for contact info.

-Software of some kind
Windows ME.

-Painted 16" Super Aeros (currently accepting suggestions for absurd colors)
Laser Red. Against the white paint, you car will be a rolling Japanese flag tribute to tsunami victims.

Good luck with the build, should be awesome when it's done. White Aeros are the sex.

Would be awesome to save that car, but honestly, it would probably be cheaper and faster to find another 9000 or another Aero. If you can get a parts car to cut a quarter panel off of/pull parts off of, you're in good shape, but otherwise, you may spend more $$ than it's worth to most. Looks like a great project though. Something that would be fun to dive into. Good luck!

I agree about it being faster to find another 9000, but not necessarily cheaper. As I said, this car has a lot of new & rebuilt parts, jobs done that I'd really rather not do to a car that I want to be my winter beater.

Heater core, alternator, engine mounts, turbo rebuild, B234 bottom end, oil pump, AC, blower motor, and lots of other little stuff (brakes, shocks, etc). Basically I know I'm dealing with a solid car, whereas other 9000s I've been looking at would need some or all of the above done at some point. 9000s aren't exactly spring chickens anymore!

Good luck.

If I was going to paint my car, it would be white. I'd paint it with a big tree-sized paintbrush.

Good to see someone saving a 9k from being stripped down to keep others on the road! I can't wait to see how it comes out! Best of luck to you!

wait are you gonna have the rear frame pulled or are you just gonna cut the rear end off and weld a new one on? The root of my question is can you pull straight a slightly bent frame?

SOAB, we're cutting out all the bent pieces - as you can see in the pics, the taillight area is pretty tragic as well as the floor being buckled. Everything mechanical is looks good (wheel well, shock mount, suspension mounting points, etc) so we're just going to replace the rear quarter + part of the floor.

Sourced a donor car, cutting begins this weekend. I'll make sure to get pictures of the destruction.

Also I have a 4th Super Aero wheel on the way (one in my set had a pretty bad gouge in it), thanks for the tip-off SPGreg!

EDIT: Also, an official name for the project has been chosen. Wanna know how I got these scars?
