My aunt Gave me Myrtle the turtle.. a Scarabe Green 4 door NA auto! the only condition was i couldnt part it out! 3 years ago i remember that car was kinda beasty. Very Peppy for an NA!

I had planned to swap a b202T into it for a long time, but never got around to it! the car has been driven into the ground with 220k, and rarely did the oil get changed. trans fluid was only added when the car failed to move! ect!

As much as i like my SPG, I honestly enjoyed driving the Grey turd better! the LPT put the powerband right where i liked it! The SPG will be going to my mom, so she can park it next to her 83 turbo, and im going to put myrtle back together!

The plan is to find a Fresh 2.1 (which wont be hard) and attach a 2.0 head, portmatched to a 2.1 intake, with turbo exaust. I got the Idea from MikeD and saabeh, and really wanted to try it out. Add T5 for gas mileage and id have a decent car! Slammed with 2 tone aero wheels, and its already got tinted windows!

anyway i like to get the Ideas written down for feedback, and i dont forget what im doing, first and formost right now is getting the 9k back together, but i should be picking this thing up within the week!

are you going to convert it to a 5spd while you have the it apart, i just finishes swaping a super clean black 86 4 dr nonturbo w/auto to a 202t with a 5spd, the car only had 90k original miles on it and the auto tranny was shot so we swaped everything over from the other car. so now the customer has a rust free 90k boddy with new engine and tranny, im jellous i want to keep the car now. :D
2.0 head on a 2.1 will be cool, I wanted to do that to mine but I only have a 2.0 block.
yes it will get a 5 speed... ialso have a set of 86 Ecode lights that will make there way on there along with bumpers of the appropriate Year!

saabeh, you still want those doors! come down to dynoday and we can work something out!

Yeah, I really only need the front passenger door.
Use a '85 turbo head, it has the smallest combustion chamber (42cc versus 44cc for all other c900 / 9000 2.0 heads) so higher compression ratio again.

The '85 intake cam lobes are meant to be ofset slightly so that one valve opend and closes just before the other to introduce a 'swirl' into the cylinder. I have no idea if this is of any value whatsoever!

But you must ditch the 85 exhaust cam, keep your original NA cam in there.

Shit, i think we might have crushed the last 85 a few months ago! SHIT!!!

i was hoping to pickup the S today, but im working on my 9k so it was a no go!

my grandfather just gave me a 89 econoline Diesel van and a trailer.... so i can haul my saabs home when they break:)

Anyway thanks for the info... off to the yard to prey for a 85 cyl head!

Grats on the New Car sounds like you got a project for yourself!

Good luck... We need pics
I have located a 2.1 with 160k on it! but i know its history and unlike the 230k engine in the car now, it hasnt been low on oil at various parts of its life!

i wonder how the car would like a Chillcast 4 speed..... seeing as i found a second one!

That would mean id have like an indestructable c900. the NA doesnt have enough power to break that trans, atleast not easily!

no pics yet i havent picked it up! damn 9k is being a PITA!
Flog the Chillcast - spend the money on rebuilding the current gearbox with a few nice mods.

Yes the Chilcast is one of the strongest casings but lets not forget it is still a four speed box with 30 year old internals!

There is lots you can do to a modern box to increase its strength - as ou say - way beyond the capabilities of a NA engine:

The Definitave Gearbox

My choice would be an 89-90 Gearbox and internals with a steel diff cover, Oil cooler and some good oil in it; that will givce you a silky gearbox which won't collaps and will not run out of steam on the motorway!

Get Busy!

it currently has a slushbox!

the issue is i have a chillcast box sitting around, and no Fresh 5 speeds (preferably #6 primarys)

so in my head so far i have come up with this..

2.1 block
2.0 head (pref 85! BTW according to hotrod mag the swirl effect adds midrange torque)
2.1 intake, portmatched to 2.0 head
2.5 inch catback exaust from a turbo
and probably T5:)
