Hello everyone :)

This is my first post at this site. This is a really cool site, by the way. DeLorean told me about The Link, so after I checked it out, the only right thing to do was to join. Looks like a really cool Saab place.

A little bit about me. I hang out in the 900 forum of SaabCentral a lot, and I registered under the same nick here as well, so perhaps some of you will recognize me. I saw some familiar nicks here already.

I'm from central NJ, USA - right by I-95, around 10 miles east of Delaware River.

I have a 1987 Saab 900 turbo 5-sp (SPG), which is my very first Saab. I bought her in August 2004, and I've been in love ever since. I have never replaced anything in any car until I got my Saab, but I've learned so much during this time. When I got my car, it needed a little TLC because it had some minor but annoying driveability problems, but the exterior and the interior of the car are in tip-top shape so far, especially for its age. There's really no other car like it.

I run my SPG pretty much stock. I have a Forge Motorsport turbo by-pass valve, K&N air filter, and Magnecor 8-mm ignition wires. Wheels are stock SPG, which I love, and I just put on some BF Goodrich Traction A/T tires - they are making me very very happy.

SInce I got the car, the most major things I've done are valve cover gasket and upper timing chain guide, rebuilt my distributor (along with new coil, wires, cap, and rotor), and rebuilt my starter motor with solenoid. I got a set of silicone vac lines from Saab Savior, but I didn't get around to putting them on. I haven't fooled around with my APC box... yet. ;)

So far I have about 177,000 miles on the clock, with original engine, turbocharger, and transmission. We'll see how long my transmission (and turbocharger) can last before I need to get some rebuilds done!

See you around in the forums!
Denis

Welcome aboard - VERY nice SPG you have yourself! Hope you enjoy yourself here and get involved with the local gathering and meets as often as you can. We are due to have a Winter meet if DeLorean and I ever get to plan something. :p

Welcome to the sight, and as long as you let that turbo idle a bit after driving, it should last for quite some time. :D

Thanks for all the comments, folks.

BurnsSide42 - thank you! Yes, Jeff mentioned a meet in our area in a couple months or so. I'd love to attend, if all things fall into place. ;)

DeLorean - thanks! :)

Tweek - yep, I let her idle before I shut off the ignition... Religiously, I might add. And drive her gently a mile or two before I have to park her.

Borkat - Thanks... I am amazed it has original tranny myself, but it seems the previous two owners have been gentle with her. I try to be good to her too. By the way she's been bought and owned right in my area in NJ the whole time. Bought from Sport and Specialist Cars in Princeton, NJ, registered in Hopewell, NJ, this car was with its original owner for about 13 years. Then the owner sold her to a Saab master tech in Bound Brook, NJ, who replaced a bunch of stuff on her to get her into tip-top shape and sold her to a graduate student, who owned her for the next 4. This same Saab tech was servicing the car during the 4 years until I bought it. All within a 20-mile radius from where I am now!

WOW - now that's a NICE SPG :) Mine doesn't have any mods. She puts out so much power in 2nd and above that I have to keep up. Never even thought about trying to increase power. The only thought that crossed my mind is faster turbo spool up and perhaps a clutch upgrade, but other than that... zoom! Now if she were RWD... ;)

Welcome deniss...if you don't mind me asking, where are you in NJ. I'm located right in central jersey as well, in Edison (Middlesex County). Anyways maybe we'll cross paths some time. I'll be posting new pics in a couple days. Just had Intrax springs installed on my ng900 with a 1.4" drop. I left my camera in my dorm and will have to find someone else to take a few pics.
