I received an AR pistol kit recently with an 80% lower and a jig for using on a mill or a drill press. After a lot of reading up on how I was going to mill out my lower I decided to spend some extra money on the Easy Jig from 80% Arms - AR15 80% Lower Receiver | Billet 80 Percent Lower | Lower Jig. There were way too many pictures of F
ed up lowers and I didn't want to ruin my first one.
I'm happy I went with the Easy Jig, It took me a little over an hour from start to stop to finish it and I am definitely going to do more. I won't post the whole milling process because there is a video on their site along with instructions.
Mill kit with the tool kit,
the only things you need are router, vice and drill, and some cutting oil. A shop vac helps a lot but you can get away without one.
The lower I had already had the hammer pocket milled out
lower in jig
drilling jig
plate for router. I went slow with the router but it took the material out effortlessly
after another part jig piece that i didn't take pictures of you end up with a completed use-able lower
the only problem I had with the whole process was my hammer pin hole was a little loose so to fix that problem I bought some anti walk pins off amazon that worked great. They had a pointed tip that was removable but made installation easy
old pin on bottom, anti walk pin on top
I think that whole issue could have been avoided with a drill press instead of a hand drill though.
