if anyone has any exp with a 900se and 235/40/17 post your results and pics if you have them. im looking for a new set of tires and i want them as wide as possible. i can get a nice set of 235/40/17 goodyear f1's local and i would like to know if they will fit on a 900se with stock suspension? appreciate any help thanks

if i sell them id take $350 so i can get some volvo rims

Actually, the Viggen wheel is a +42mm offset IIRC. And mine are +42mm. I have ZERO rub. And I'm lowered.

As long as you follow the factory procedure for trimming the rear fenders for 17" fitment, you should be fine. You can also fine tune with H&R TRAK+ spacers.
wow nice pics where should i trim in rear? and the rims i have are knockoffs, but i was told they have same offset. also how wide are stock viggens? because the way the tire mounts might be different?

either way thanks for comments

i m running 235/45/17's on the rear of my viggen and 9-5 and both are on rkii 17x8's

viggen is stock height very little to no rubbing ( only on extreme dips or driveways)

9-5 has aero springs and koni adjustables and it rubs a bit more on dips and driveways

I actually was going to try out some 235/40/17's but that size is bit harder to find. So i decided to go with the same size im running in the front 225/45/17 Toyo Proxes4.

ya i can find a cheap set of 235/40/17 but idk if they will fit. i had 3 in my car and it rubbed a bit over hard bumps. so if i had bigger tires i would think they would rub too. but where do i trim for 17" rims? or do i need to roll fenders? and if i can trim enough for 235/40/17 ill get them but i havent set it in stone im still researching. and keep pics comming and first hand accounts

^This is true. I got a crazy deal on the RA-1's and the sidewall stiffness of the Toyo mitigates that issue, but in general you are correct.

I will say, 235/40/17 will fit without rubbing on a 17x7.5" wheel with a +42mm offset on a lowered car. If you can get the tires cheaply, go for it, it will be fine for street use and spirited driving, even if they don't have track tire sidewall stiffness. You can also tune that to some degree with tire pressure.

Here's a link to the factory 17" trimming procedure.

thanks for the link

the 235/40/17 are 300shipped and now im reading about sidwall wear i think 225/45/17 might be a better choice. does anyone know of a good tire for 300-400$ price range? for daily dry/wet summer/spring tire?

and im going to take some pics of trimming on saturady

i can get the goodyear gsd3 f1 235/4017 shipped for under $300 and mounted/balanced for less than 15 a tire so i think im going with these. i still have to trim for bigger tires i just hope i wont have to roll fenders or get new wheel well panels

Goodyear Eagle F1's, don't remember if they're the same sub-model F1's or not but should be very close to what you're getting. Running 235/45/17 on 17x8 BBS RKi's +35mm offset - absolutely no rubbing whatsoever, ever. Stock ride height, no rolling of fenders. I love them - good in wet and dry and I've had them close to 10k miles and they look to have at least twice that left in them.

wow car looks great. those bbs rk1s look sweet on your car. and the reason i went with the gsd3 f1 is its a excellent wet weather tire. car and driver rated #1 before. but since all new designs and materials came out the price on the tires droped alot. im waiting for suspension to be complete and alignment then ill get tires mounted. and i still have to trim car a bit for 17's thanks for all help and great pics and rides thanks

Spacers are fine, some sanctioning bodies have rules about them, but if you use a quality spacer (such as H&R TRAK+) and high quality extended lugs, there is little safety concern. The biggest issues is extended side loading of the bearings due to increasing the scrub radius of the suspension/steering geometry. But +5mm or +10mm is a pretty safe bet, IMO.

The track is Saint Lawrence Motorsports Park in Morristown, NY. My club goes there a few times a year for Time Attack type events. It's a kart track with 11 turns, 3/4 mile in length that's about 30 feet wide. A really fun, challenging course, tough on brakes and tires.
