2004 vs 2006 airbag differences?

Hi. I just purchased a new steering wheel for my 2004 9-3 convertible. The one I bought came off a 2006 and the airbag "release" points are in different locations on the back of the steering wheel. Does anyone know if that also means the airbags are different or just the release mechanism (the wheel I bought did not include an airbag so I wanted to use my original one)... Thanks!!
