2.0 vs 2.0

Saab has had great 2.0 motors for a long time now, but I never hear about them in the media. As soon as Audi comes out with one, it's suddenly the hottest thing around and needs to be put in everything. What gives with that?

gaywheels.com really likes the new 9-5....
You can bet it has something to do with all the ad money Audi has been pumping into the market. It doesn't hurt that their cars are winning their segments over M/B and BMW either.

Come to think of it, you do realize that the Spyker C8 Alieron is powered by a twin-turbo Audi V8, right? ;) Give Victor and Co. some time and SAAB technology will likely gain more eyes and ears.
These B204 engines are vastly underrated and under appreciated in the automotive world. It is very hard to fault an engine that on stock internals, will reliably run 500hp without ever having to open the engine. This is not taking into account how reliable the engines are given the number of 200,000+ mile mills that are still working well.

It is a shame they don't get the respect they should. I used to enjoy telling people about the engine when the average auto enthusiast would say "Wow, this Saab is turbo'ed?! You must have had to put in forged internals and everything!" No not really, I haven't touched the engine and it comes from the factory with a turbo but I have noticed it has been annoying me more recently when a statement like that is said.
Saabs 2.0 is out of date. A FI 2.0T these days should have direct injection. Look at the GM 2.0 DI, 260hp-260tq. The new Hyundai DI 2.0 Turbo, 274hp hp.

The 210hp 2.0T in the Saabs have been alright at best. We should have had the 2.0 DI years ago.

Just now, in mid 2011 the 9-3 is getting direct injection with a 10hp bump.

Is that all? 10HP?
C'mon spyker- 2.3L DI turbo 4 cyl. w/low restriction intake & exhaust. Should be good for at least 290 HP

10hp, but likely the bump to 258lbs of tq.

If the 4 cyl had 290hp, where would they go with the 2.8T? From what I understand GM would not let Spyker up the power on the 2.8T hurting the GM's with the same engine.
Yeah, i think the real fun will begin once the powertrain options open up for Saab, we are in a transistion period, things will only get better... (hopefully)
