1997 Saab 9000 Aero 5-speed PRICE REDUCTION - LOOK AT THE MODS LIST
Pictures will be updated as they come in (check in a few hours, there is a break in rain which would allow me to snap some more) https://picasaweb.google.com/pureretro/Saab9000Aero
1997 9000 Aero with 5 speed transmission for sale in California. Imola Red with Black interior.
Currently has 173k on the clock and runs perfectly. Boosts full, doesn't leak, no strange noises. Oil was changed last week with Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w-30, as were plugs and BOTH new Bosch O2 Sensors (both cost me around $400). Michelin Axalto All Season tires are 5k miles new.
Car is located in Palo Alto, CA.
I have full service records from when I purchased at 118k miles, including receipts for every purchase I made for the car. There is a sizable excel spreadsheet that I maintain for every line item.
The following mods have been performed. None of these are low-dollar items and were purchased new.
1. Koni shocks with Abbott Springs. The front struts were powdercoated red as well. New ball joints installed up front.
2. Front and Rear SAS sway bars
3. Superflex bushing from rear part of front lower wishbone.
4. Aerodyte 3" exhaust with Chrome oval tips (needed some adjustment to fit)
5. Euro front lights (OEM) from thesaabsite.com, clear corners from Genuinesaab
6. PBR Ceramic pads with Brembo discs
7. Genuinesaab short shift kit with new shift knob
8. JVC KD-AVX44 head unit with bluetooth integrated
9. Forge recirculating BOV (polished silver)
10. Genuinesaab front strut brace
12. New battery from OReilly parts, as of 3 weeks ago.
12. Walbro 255 Fuel Pump (installed with new fuel filter)
13. T5suite tuned Stage 3 (tuning wizard)
14. Genuinesaab open air filter, but put the AEM Dryflow (still have the K&N if you want it)
15. Saab Synthetic transmission oil.
16. One Powerflex upper engine mount (did not do both for fear of excessive vibration)
17. Mesh grill which I made and installed myself.
18. Some new silicon techniques hoses in red
These are the spares which are included with the car, probably worth another $500 or so.
1. Powerflex bushings for front lower arm (front segment), PLUS a spare set of lower arms so you can install and swap!
2. Another set of ball joints.
3. Set of 4 brand new Brembo brake discs
4. Spare DI cassette (because, you know...they break and it's good to have one in trunk)
5. Spare valve cover (I was going to powdercoat this one)
6. More powerflex bushings for Alternator and Steering Rack
7. Spare ECU (stock, original with car)
8. SKF/Timken wheel bearing (one).
9. OEM Corteco Engine Mount (hydraulic), which I intended to do the A/C hose mod with.
10. Spare exhaust manifold (this was to be powdercoated and EGT probe installed)
11. Serpentine belt tool
12. Continental Serpentine Belt
13. New idler pulley
Reason for sale:
I would prefer to sell it out of state as it has a universal 3" catalytic converter (Magnaflow 45009) installed today and passed smog with nearly ZERO Nox and way low on HC and CO2. The issue is that California has clamped down on universal cats, even though model 45009 is CARB compliant. It doesn't doesn't show as being "compatible" with the Saab 9000.
So, it's a great car, just in the wrong state.
Here are some other notes on the car:
1. Body condition: At some point, the rear driver side door was not well repaired and you can see the bondo under the paint. Clearcoat peeling on front and rear bumper, as well as driver side A-piller. I did not bother as I was going to have the car restored ground up. There is a dent on hood that you can see, a neighbor's kid dropped a basketball on it. Most of car is original paint so some oxidization is present.
2. Interior condition: the aero seats are in incredible condition, better than some 80k cars I've seen. There is a small peel in top leather (just the black part) in driver side rear seat bottom, as I had dropped the corner of a luggage on it. 2 small chips on windshield, which itself was replaced with a Sekurit OEM unit about 3 years ago. The photo (light) sensor in the Digital Clock (EDU) is likely bad, and I have a replacement photo-sensor for it. In the day, the clock and dash digital display doesn't light up full. The window switch for the rear driver is sticky in the front switch pack. Works fine from the switch at the rear seat.
3. Mechanical: outer CV boot torn. I zip tied the right side, but the left recently tore. I have not fixed this yet.
Needless to say, for the 9000 Aero fan, this is a great restoration or driving candidate. It's ready for a Sachs HD pressure plate and stock clutch, and you can drop a 19T or a Garrett in there along with an ETS intercooler (just to give you a peek of where I was originally going with the car).
To be honest, I'd keep the car just for practicality of hauling capacity, but I have 4 other cars in garage which also need constant attention. I hope it goes to a good home.
I am thinking about asking $4000 for it, and that's probably less than the price of all the parts I've put in it over the years!
Drop me an mail and I'll send a link with pictures once I have her cleaned up. In the mean time, I'll keep working on the California smog problem, and if it's fixed without throwing more money at her, I'll likely keep it. Note, that some counties in CA don't do the visual inspection so you'd be OK.
