Back on track for me; it definately looks like a well sorted Porsche is out of the question. I was thinking about adding the Boxster to the list but its too impractical since this will be my DD. I have been reading up on the E36 M3's and E39 M5s, along with E39 540i (with the sport package) and think these are going to be the main ones I am most interested in.

With reliability on the BMWs; the bimmer forums seem to indicate that most of the costs are in preventitive maintenence, but are these cars really prohibitively expensive to maintain?

What the hell is brake boosting?
i am guessing this is sarcasm as this is nothing new but i will explain...road race drivers do this when entering a corner also, as it gives them boost when leaving the corner...
also people that dont have a two step or ALC will do this at the drag strip so they can leave on boost instead of waiting for it to come

i have found that holding the brakes while steping on the gas spools up the turbo so when the last horn in this case sounds i will have more power to get moving?

In all honesty those all sound like solid choices, what I would do is test drive a few and see which one "speaks to you."

Personally I would go Porsche all day every day, but I'm a sucker for an old 911. So sexy.
Me too haha, thats why I put in an honest effort to look into them as an option. I was mostly trying to get an idea for the type of car I would like to focus on, which was the hardest part for me. I was drawing blanks and I knew people had much more experience in looking for cars and its helped me alot.

Ps. Thanks Craig and Andy!

Your DD choices are unlimited in cali. No snow to worry about which means you can drive the car all year round and not worry about salt eating away your paint or fish tailing off the road cuz your car was rwd. Get a 964 and you will be happy

too bad that puts it into base boost

I think all of the choices would be very cool cars, and I don't know anything about your vehicle record, but all of these make the news daily from putting inexperienced drivers into a tree when the back end comes out, ESPECIALLY the porsches. I know everyone bashes on fwdlol and you won't have to deal with snow and ice but just be careful with a high hp rwd car. My friend borrowed his sisters '06(?) mustang GT and crashed and totaled it in about 20 minutes. I'd sure hate to see that happen to my new sports car.

I feel like we have these threads every few months. Perhaps we should just sticky one of them for all future people to ask the same question. lol

How about an NSX? Don't see them every day.

I'm a big fan of the MR2 Turbo. Trying to find one in good condition for a fare price is going to be hard. But you'll have tons of extra money to fix it up/modify it.

Are you looking for uniqueness? If so I'm not sure if a Porsche/M3/5 fits into that picture in Cali. What you really want is a 1967 275 GTB four-cam... That would make you a connoisseur. ;-)

I am going to love that, there are some definate perks to moving to California haha. Thats why I wouldn't have any regrets bringing my car. ;)

I have respect for that, even in my car. I'm always careful and have never been pulled over or been in an accident. That is a great point, I would have to adjust but I think that having respect for power and RWD makes the difference.

i would go for a classic 911 over a M3 personally.

something like this would also be awesome. went to this shop in person, pretty awesome place.

I'm not a fan of M3s myself, just for the boy racer image. I would die for a 911 but its hard to find a nice one within my budget. That Cossy is hot btw. ;)

Thats what I love about the Saab, I don't really want to see it on ever street corner I guess. But that said, I don't want to drive a ways to have to service it and stuff. And LOL at the Ferrari, in my wildest freaking dreams. ')

my suggestion is, if you really want a high HP rwd sports car....go to a driving school at skip barber.

get on the track and the skid pad and learn how to handle the car in a slide.

iirc they are now using turbo porches and m3's

50.

Also, blue shirt with a white collar. Blow dried hair.

Gold watch.
I've got a gold chain already so thats a great head start.

10k to buy a nice one, 10 k to keep it nice, sell it for 15k+ when you are done, especially if christian is detailing it.

Already in Cali:

Oof, that interior is shot for a 14k dollar car... I don't see how this is, "As I hope is articulated in the photos, the inside of this car is good to very good." as the seller has advertised.

Other than that, it's a beautiful example of an e30 m3.
