Wolf spider

Found this guy when I took the cover off my car this morning. That's the rear curtain of my convertible top. He was a good size, but I've seen bigger around here. We had a frost last night and he must have been looking for a warm spot. He was a little lethargic when I picked him off.

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

I used to visit friends in Minnesota as a kid and their house was always crawling with those.

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

No. Slight sting, but nothing bad at all. My brother and I used to forage our back yard for them, and have epic MMA fights between Wolf Spiders and other bugs. We've been bit by everything, and the Wolf Spider is on the low end of the "Oh shit..." scale.

Their body-type resembles the Brown Recluse, which is on the top of the "Oh shit" scale.

Actually, they are frightened by people. They like to hide away, and hunt at night.

Very good at ridding gardens of harmful pest bugs.

Be a rational human, and leave them alone... they can only help you.

Yeah, the Brown Recluse is no joke. They are small too, so hard to spot sometimes.

Spiders are cool.

For a second, I thought you were talking about the politicians.

They both suck their victims dry; one for sport, the other to survive.

That hunting at night thing is no joke. That was my first meeting with a wolf - it literally plopped onto my head about two seconds after I crawled in bed and shut off the light. Yipes.

Last summer, while camped out at my parents' place in Alabama, I was forever checking the couches and beds for brown recluse. They have those and black widows down there, too.

haha - thats actually a baby around these parts. they're everywhere in Missouri, average size adults are the size of your palm - and a lot of times, much bigger than that. They're of no harm to humans.

That's not a spider!

Had a few of these Huntsmen spiders (seen below) crawl across my windscreen at times down here! Scares the crap outta you... especially when driving. Luckily they aren't poisonous like our funnel web spiders (they can be deadly) and red backs spiders!

Never found a spider that big on or in my Saab, but I do get all these tiny tiny tan spiders that make webs in and around my Yakima rack towers. I always get their webs in my face every time I get in my car.

Sab- One of my friends from Australia was telling me about all the spiders and insects down there. Fortunately, I haven't seen anything that big outside of a terrarium here!

Brown Recluse's are huge... not small. We've had a few around my house and if bitten will deteriorate your skin and tissue.

Black widows are small.

Anyways, yeah, we have tons of wolf spiders here... I remember swimming as a kid and there was one on the floating raft in the lake that we had and used to jump off of. Well, I got onto the raft and looked down on my stomach and had the biggest wolf spider I'd ever seen sitting right on my stomach. I freaked. I absolutely hate spiders lol.

Oh, and x3 on the tiny tan spider killing daily in my car... They always make a web attaching to the door from the side view mirror. Drives me nuts.
