SOC '07 its official Detroit, MI

just got word that SOC 07 is gonna be in detroit, from what i hear, heavy influence from GM (duh) should be a good one if they dont screw it all up

here's the email, courtesy of the Turbo! mailing list.

Quote:
For the first time in several years the SCNA has had several options
of locations to choose. We had 3 groups that wanted to put on next
years event. After presentations by all groups and a vote by the
SCNA we are proud to announce that:

The 2007 SAAB Owner's Convention will be in (or around) Detroit
being run by the Great Lakes SAAB Club.

The actual weekend will be finalized soon and we will get that
information out as soon as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Lester Ewing
President SAAB Club of North America

700ish miles from NH, with 500+ highway miles - thats an easy 8-9 hour drive for us

Mapquest says about 13 hours, 900 miles to "detroit MI." so it can change depending on the actual location. It sends me up 87 to Canada and 401W. A very nice road. Not sure about law enforcement in Canada though....

So long as where I'm working next summer is a bitch to me, I'll be there.

Detroit sounds doable for me....hopefully it's "near detroit" and not acutally in Detroit.

If they make it the same time as last year it would co-incide with the Woodward Dream Cruise. We plan a trip every year to the Detroit area, so we might make this.

yeah i think that would be a fun drive. but definitely we would have to get all the NE guys together somewhere to start, and then start the trek as like 30 saabs traveling together.

I will be there. Finally, one I can actually make it to...

All you on the coasts should head into the midwest.

Pussy I have done the drive from Detroit to NJ about 25 x, I do it all in one shot. It can be done in 7 hours flat, I woke up at 7am and was there in time for a late lunch. I was in Detroit for 4 years, its not such a bad place. Also they arent going to have this event in the ghetto, we are talking about old Saab crackers here.

The thing I find fascinating about Detroit is this. 10 minutes from Detroit there are towns like Gross Pointe that have multi million dollar houses. Also Windsor Canada was 10 mins away. There was always a lot to do on a weekend. There are also also great strips to cruise like Gratiot and Woodward with parking lot car shows and impromptu street racing.
