The State of TSL. We'd like your input.

Please read the following before spouting off.

A few people have been complaining lately about the state of this forum. This thread is to let you know that the mods are listening. If you have feedback or a suggestion, let's hear it.

For example:

• This place is too snarky.
• I like how snarky this place is.
• Too much name-calling.
• Too much tolerance of trolling.
• The NSFW pics/language bother me and make it hard to navigate the site while at work.
• I love it here and nothing should change.

One change that is probably off the table is requiring less information in for sale threads. If you would prefer we get that info differently from the template, say so. But saying what we ask for is too demanding, is silly.

Please know that this thread is not for throwing poop. This isn't for calling individuals out publicly. It's OK to be frank, but be constructive.

Any posts that aren't constructive criticism will be deleted. For the sake of staying on topic, no comedians please.

Everyone knows where I stand...

I'm not saying remove all of the witty comments completely, just the ones that are blatant attacks on fellow members. If you don't like something, politely voice your opinion or keep your thoughts to yourself, there's no need to belittle the person in the process.

We are all guilty of this behavior from time to time, however, when it's coming up in nearly every single post by the member just to piss the person off, I find it completely unacceptable and disrespectful to the entire community.

The NSFW pics should be left to the threads that are titled NSFW. I am not too keen of browsing through a thread that isn't marked and having to worry about implications from my employer.

Trolling is out of control, and has been for the past couple of years. This is the thing that should be taken care of first and foremost. This is a forum for friends and Saab enthusiasts, if you are simply here to cause drama and be an immature ass (along with, but not limited to, bashing the cars the majority of us share a passion for) you shouldn't have the privilege of being on this site. I am sick and tired of continuously having to defend Saabs on a SAAB FORUM. Give me a break, if you don't love the cars, then leave. If you want to troll, go hang out on 4chan or something. Don't bring it here.

The snarky remarks don't bother me as much as the personal call outs and vendettas. I too have a dry and smart ass sense of humor, but there's a time and a place for it.

And I think you'll find that most of the people that are guilty of these things are often just defending themselves from the root/source of the problem, not just for fun. Such as myself. I don't get off on making other people angry or upset. I would rather see my peers happy and relaxed. Making inside jokes to your closest friends and people you understand is much different than doing it to a total stranger who has no idea what your true intentions of your behavior is. I'm not going to poke people to find their breaking point, unless I truly know the person offline and in real life or have a good feel of what their personality is like. Online conversation is completely different due to the lack of context and the inability to see one's facial/body expressions. It's best not to do it in the first place to avoid any confusion.

Ideally, I'd like to see the forum drastically change direction towards what it once was in the early stages, as it was a highly addictive and fun environment every time you signed on without having to turn red and want to punch a hole through your monitor.

And this isn't an English class, leave the grammatical mistakes alone unless you truly can't understand what the person is saying... ie, Raul.

Just my .02.

I think people need to stop complaining about others and mind their own business. If someone has a different opinion, don't quote a post and write 200 words on why they are wrong. For fuck's sake, let it go and move on. Agree to disagree and let it go.

It seems the ones that are doing the majority of the complaining are in fact wrong. Had they not constantly spewed on about how people are meen or bringing up the past, this thread would have not been created.

This forum is easily 3 years behind current Internet popularity topics and cannot acknowledge good or well thought out trolling.

Ok, that's enough from you two. Trying to have a conversation here, not an argument.

I'm not going to retaliate, I voiced my concerns and am leaving it at that.

I think a big part of the problem is that many people here take things too personally. I enjoy this place because you can voice your opinion. I like Saabs, I own 2. However, I don't view these cars through a rose tinted lens, which may upset some. People need to relax a bit and realize that just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they are attacking you.

Its taken me a few years to realize that TSL is here STRICTLY for social BS'ing, not for buying, selling, and helping other like-minded folks with issues they are having with their cars.

I dig it now and again, but by & large it drives me nuts. Call me Mr.ZeroFun, but I would be absolutely ecstatic if this site were a forum version of Saabnet without the rediculous rules Scott has over there.

There, I said it.

Honestly, I come here for the entertainment and to saabnet for the answers... The users here have far more character than saabnet and that is part of why I keep coming back! It is a great "social" forum whereas saabnet is strictly business!

People need not be censored. You can stop the banter (closed thread) but no post deleting, its not right. This forum is still great and frankly people need to chill.

I think theres alot of personal issues that just need to be kept OUT of the forums and needs to stay in private messaging or whatever. Too much public bashing, makes this site look very douche bag central. We are here to post about our saabs, half naked women, and beer.

Another thing i noticed, theres quite a few members that band together to increase the immature middle school bashing. Many of those members dont have a fucking thing to do with what the situations about, but they dive in and start attacking anyway. That shits gotta end too. Grow the fuck up. You should know who you are too.

I disagree with Saabeh on post deletion. Alot of it is nessary. Theres too many people that shit on other peoples threads lately. Thats not fair to the OP in most cases. I think mods should start not just closing the thread but deleting the thread all together if possible. The ban hammer hasnt been brought out in a while either, i think there needs to be some spanking again.

Lendo, well said.

I truly hate deleting any posts, but I think some post deletion is necessary to keep a thread on topic and get rid of extraneous clutter. Before yesterday I think I'd deleted less than 5 non-scammer posts.

I agree with TSL being more of a social network than a fix it forum. Because of this, this happens every year. Someone gets their feeling hurt and than we have a big group hug and it's over for a year. I will admit that I post alot less than I used to. There are alot of folks on here that just plain love to argue whether thay are right or wrong. They are the same ones who get butt hurt when someone points it out to them. Part of my reduced posting is because of the dealer bashing, why help when all they do is bash the dealer (usually the one that can help) I've posted reduced prices for forum members only to still have them bitch about price.
