Console Smoking
I have a 1988 900 turbo convertible. Just had to change the battery as the car is not driven much. After installing the new battery and turning the key smoke accompanied by an electrical burning smell started coming out of the instrument panel area right above where the speedometer is. Obviously took the key out and disconnected the battery. Any thoughts?
Thanks |

You can get access to the back of the speedo cluster by removing the speaker. Not sure what could have died in there, but this would be a good starting point.

Look the thru the speaker hole above the instrument cluster like ninehundredt said. The first step will be to see if the burning component is visible.
Did you only turn the key to ACC or ON and see/smell smoke immediately? Or did you start the car?
