My Holset needs a new turbine wheel/shaft and rebuild.... :(

I believe if I put a new turbine wheel in it, it needs to be balanced. The "very slight side play" I was told about is enough to make the compressor wheel hit the housing. Does anyone know a good place to have a turbo rebuilt at? I thought there used to be someone that used to advertise on Saab Net, but I didn't see it just now. It really sucks, but I suppose after all is said and done, I'll have a really nice and fresh turbo......

Go on the dodge forums, there are a dozen turbo rebuilders on there specializing in Holsets.

good idea, thanks... I'll check it out tomorrow, I found the guy I was looking for "Chadwick"...

I guess I'm going to try my luck on another used one. After a professional rebuild and the new turbine and shaft, It'll be close to $600.... If I could do it myself, I would, but the assembly balancing with the new shaft has to be done by someone that's equipped to do so. So, back to the classifieds.

Can't you just send the shaft and wheels out for balance and rebuild the thing yourself? I have seen prices of like $50 to balance and rebuild kits are like $100 I think.

I think rebuild kits are even less than that, I wanna say $45.

I read something interesting about using the newer ones off of Dodge Rams that can alter the exhaust housing size, or something like that. Several people have made this work to great success. Something to think about if you come across a cheap one and feel like being different :)

gpopshop should be able to take care of you for less than $350.

I'll check into this for sure, thanks for the idea.

Nope, that's JUST the rebuild, the new turbine/shaft assembly is another $165 at least.....

christian900se 06-29-2009 12:03 PM

I think that if you go to a place like Gpop, you will have a warrantied rebuilt turbo that will last you a long time for more money.

But, you can try and find another Holset but run the risk of having another one just like this.

The choices!

Moosepuck 06-29-2009 12:39 PM

yeah, I know... I have no doubt that Gpop would do a top notch job. ... Just got it in the mail today from Vigge and it looks great! Very heavy duty! Need to do something soon! :)

Thanks for looking out, but I'm going to stick with the 35, maybe it'll take longer to blow something up that way...

Green9kAERO 07-02-2009 09:13 AM

im told the wheels are individually banlenced so you could put a good one on yourself??

Moosepuck 07-05-2009 06:22 PM

yep, I've been told all of the parts are "zero balanced".... but I've also been advised that I really 'should' have the assembly professionally balanced... I'm still tossing the idea around of just getting the parts and doing it myself without the balancing.... If I can find a reasonably priced hx35 12cm again soon, that's probably what I'll do. :???:
