thermal coatings

so i was reading more on thermal coatings and came across flow coat coating". its a hydophobic, teflon type coatingto improve airflow and fuel residue and carbon . the coating cover the exhuast and intake ports of the cylender head and also the ends of the valve stems ...the thickness can be between 0.6 and to 0.30 ,0.35 ,0.45mm the gains can be from 1-2 % but it ruduces friction. imporves spool for turbos and lowers water and oil temps it may be somthing i want to gini pig for my head.

however i already have had my head port and polished so would i have to prot my head 0.35mm more for a 0.35 thermal coating ?also i haveto have my valve guids seals.ect replaces so would i have that done first?im goingto give them a call.

Cost?

nowhereman 05-13-2009 01:39 PM

what he ^ said

is it prohibitively expensive?

I've thought about things like this, in fact if I do have my turbo out this summer to covert to 18t I will be having it coated.

9-3sleeper 05-13-2009 02:34 PM

well I just wrote swain tech an email asking how much it would cost to have my i/c and intake heat sheild cated with BBE, my manifold DP and turbo coated in white lightning, and my intake maniflod coated in TBC.
Ill let yall know what they say.

Itll probably be horendous.

swain tech is dough...but its awesome and way better than jet hot.

has this cool "sweating" property too

wow. looks like Ill have to pick and choose what I want done. It may only be the turbo :???:

I did really want to do the rest of the exhaust parts and the intercooler though.

You could think about Polydyn as well.

http://www.polydyn.com/index.htm

Their website isn't great, but I had them do the inside & outside of the exhaust housing and rotor faces with a heat resistant coating, and the rotor sides with an oil shedding coating on my RX7. All have held up well (just had the engine apart again). That said, I had them do my header as well, but that part seems to flex too much and coating is flaking off.

9-3sleeper 05-14-2009 09:47 PM

they look pretty good but it doesn't look like they offer any heat shedding coatings like the BBE from swain tech. I really want to get my i/c covered in that stuff, it would be neat to see how much faster I could recover from heat soak with it. It also sounds like it would look pretty cool... as you can probably deduce Im a fan of sleepers and having a black intercooler would add to that effect.
