Two cars, Three engines

Its been a while since I've posted anything really productive, or done anything really productive, but I believe that's about to change. My buddy, Jordan, drives a 2001 9-3 SE. Unfortunately it has begun to knock, and needs a motor sooner than later.

I've got a 95 900. 2 door, 2.0 turbo, Some of you may have seen it on here before. It runs like a champ, but I've had a 2.3 sitting around for a couple years. So we've come up with a little scheme that should solve all our problems.

Jordan's buying my motor, and will make a 204/205 hybrid. It has the td04 and crossflow already, and we will be adding the t5 cams, 3" downpipe and an intake.

My car has a td04, Forge WGA, crossflow, 2.5' downpipe, t7 bpc and a t5suite stg2 tune installed currently. The 2.3 is from a 1998 9k. I have the 6cm td04 from the car as well as a viggen clutch to install. I will also do a hydraulic clutch conversion while I'm in there.

In addition, both cars will be getting tunes from MikeD!

This should all get started in a week and a half or so, I just placed orders at Rock Auto, Eeuro, GS, and Amazon, so hopefully we will have everything we need when we get started!

Ill throw in some pics of the cars to start, hopefully there will be plenty more as the project progresses.

The parts are starting to arrive! Just a few boxes so far, a few more to come. I ordered some parts to make myself a decent intake as well.

If all goes as planned we should be getting started next Saturday!

Pic of the 2.3 donor. I might have a valve cover with 2.3 written on it to install, but I'm not too worried about that.

No rebuilds unfortunately. The b234 going into my car is a good motor and so I will just be putting that in as-is. I had the flywheel shaved because I am upgrading to a viggen clutch. I have another b234 that I will do a full rebuild on in the future if I decide to run a holset.

We had the t7 head checked and shaved to go onto the b204 bottom end, which also shouldn't need any work. So that motor will have a fresh head gasket.

We are both replacing lots of seals etc and some other wear items as well.

Garage cleaned up and ready to go!

IMAG0686 by awill141, on Flickr

My car pulled in. Almost time to go under the knife.

IMAG0687 by awill141, on Flickr

Cleaned up the b234 a bit. Still needs my ng900 oil pan and timing cover installed, then some more cleaning and a little paint.

A couple hours later and my motor is out and Jordans car is pushed in.

Thanks bogan. I'm a bit spoiled from the garage, it is really nice.

We made some more progress yesterday. The b204 is stripped down to the short block. At that point we pulled Jordan's b205 out and stripped it as well.

Hopefully today we will have the 204/205 hybrid together and running in Jordan's car.

I love using the lift for engine swaps. Pulled a motor out of a saturn yesterday.

I also have a civic eg (1992-1995) and that has no subframe!! Motor swaps are even easier!!

One thing I have done for my garage is build a few subframe carts. Find some inexpensive casters and they make jobs simple.

Here is one I made for the ng900. It has the v6 I am swapping out on it.

I like the subframe cart idea! I may have to do something like that someday.

Well, we are picking up another 9-3 tomorrow to receive the 204/205 hybrid, and the silver car will be parted out. Rust and lots of bodywork are the culprit. More details and some pictures will come

Will the cat be helping with the build? Carrying small parts for you perhaps?

No , but that would be great!

So Monday morning we went and picked up the new car. A black 2001 9-3 SE. It is in much better shape than the silver car. We had the engine out Monday night.

By that time we had a whole garage bay filled with parts

IMAG0714 by awill141, on Flickr

Tuesday we began to install the 204/205 hybrid, and had that done and driving at about 2:30 in the morning.

That corrado has a mk3 TDI swapped into it. Not a sleeper to say the least but it gets about 50+ mpg, and its original to say the least.

Oh! That's too funny! Great idea!!! Love the engine, love the car. Would NEVER have thought of putting the two together.
