Engine build questions, what to pursue!
So, I have recently purchased a MY2000 Lightening blue Viggen, I got it for extremely cheap as it has a blown motor in it. (perfect opportunity!).
I have a complete b235r in my garage as well as a b234 from a 1996 9k laying around. Perfect opportunity to finally use a top mount setup ![]() I would prefer to use the b234 block as it just appears that there is much more material on the underside of the cylinders, specifically numbers 2 and 3. I did the b234/235 hybrid in my last Viggen and did not like it, the compression ratio was too low for me, for city driving... So the question. Do I build a b234 and swap it in, or, do I build the 235? I am using a t5 cylinder head because I already have a built one, I also have a custom intake manifold to fit the t7 amenities but to also retain proper injector angle of the t5 head and manifold. I am using all ARP hardware and will be using Pauter connecting rods and Wossner pistons. I am ready to purchase everything, I just have yet to determine what to use. What I would love to do is: b234 block, 234/235 90mm crankshaft, 153mm pauter rods and 235 wossner pistons to retain the awesome 235 rod geometry as well as use a t7 headgasket. I have seen blown headgaskets on the 234 more frequently, would the OE 234 composite headgasket withstand 30+ psi of boost with ARP head studs? Of COURSE the block would be decked and the cylinder head has already been resurfaced, which results in a slightly higher compression ratio. Also if anyone knows what the rod length of the 234 rods are that would be great, do they differ from the 235 or is the wrist pin location simply different on the pistons? Thank you in advance! Hoping for Harvey to key me in to a few things ![]()
