Short block question

Hello I'm new here. A friend of mine has a 2002 9-3 SE with a K code engine that is knocking pretty bad and she just wants to get rid of it. I'm kind of interested in it because a neighbor has a 97 or 98 motor and I was wondering if the short blocks between the two engines can be interchanged because I believe Saab switched engines in 2000. I don't know too much about Saab's so any and all info is appreciated

Thanks for looking.

The short answer is yes they can be interchanged as long as the motor your neighbours has is a b204 or b234.

Search on here for b234 or b204 swap. There are lots of threads.

Thank you, I didn't know what to search because I didn't now the engine codes. I found a lot of helpful threads. Kind of an off topic question but how hard would it be to convert said car from an auto to a manual?

I ended up buying the car for 600 bucks. From what I've been reading on here, b2x4 swaps are fairly common but they result in a lower compression ratio. Is this with both the b204 and b234? How can this be corrected?

Here's a couple of pics of the car:

Nice looking car for $600!

I'm in the Appleton area and have a Tech2 if you need help with diagnostics.

I'm in the Kenosha area, I just edited my location. I'll probably need some help sooner or later. Right now I'm trying to get as much info as I can.

I might need to use that to program some keys, I only got one with the car. That can wait til I get it running.
