Same here. My 2000 9-3 I bought on ebay for $900 works fine with high profile studded snows and is my DD with low profile tires the rest of the year. It had 51K when I bought it with front end damage. The VigVert does about 5K a year, as does the F150. Only 3 miles to work. I could walk.

2012 Impreza wagon, 5 speed. Haven't gotten snow tires for it yet but we'll see. Bought it brand new to beat up, so I can preserve my '83 c900. Makes perfect sense, right?

My DD also sees all of the winter action... stock 1999 9-3 SE with vikings and some snow tires (hopefully upgrading the DD to something AWD in the coming months)

The other 1999 (stage 5 E85) 9-3 stays in the garage.

1998 Subaru Forester Base Model, 2.5 N/A 5 spd, 190k

I've swapped in 2002 Impreza heated seats, wood dash, Momo STI Shifter, added the Roof rack.

It's great for winter but a necessity for the far more evil mud season up here. There are days my Forester barely makes it through the foot deep ruts, and all the SAABs are parked safe and sound.

Forester is getting a new rear subframe this week, she's a great car but likes to rust awfully fast.

This is what I put the most miles on. It's like a cadi inside and a Hummer outside cant beat it!

2002 Stage 4 Viggen with Hakkas. Great winter car with a defroster that really works (the tires and the Quaife help) but the front bumper serves as a plow at times!

Well, I prefer to go old school and use my '93 C900 S.

but I still drive my NG900 as much as I can. Boost is too fun to not have on a daily basis.

Nice dude. Is it a stick? I have wanted a disco for a while, but the reliability scares me.

It's a Disco II which are all Auto in the USA

Disco Is came stick also, but the chassis was not galvanized and they rot.

The later 02-up disco IIs with the 4.6 engine ALL failed. They have all been rebuilt at this point, except the ones that haven't with 30 or 40k miles...

If you get one... Get an 00 or 01 and skip the ACE and the Air Susp.

They are completely reliable ! We just took ours on a 750 mile trip! 16 MPG!

You won't find any vehicle like it for both luxury and capability for sub $5k!

Ours has 96k, got for 2200$ and put another grand in. Repairs are based on a Phillips screwdriver, a 13mm socket and a 10mm socket... Oh and dielectric grease... They seemed to skimp on that.. Most of the switches need a clean and lube on the internals... If you've ever rebuilt a ng900 or 9000 window switch pack you are well qualified...

Parts are cheap ( rock auto) except the few that are crazy... (Gear selector switch was 1154$, I bought a used one for 200 and rebuilt it).

Great community... Ours needed coil packs, the land rover guys figured out that they crossreference with 95-96 Kia sorento coil packs by Bosch number... LR coil packs 110$ each, ordered two 34$ Bosch Kia coil packs... That kind of stuff abounds!

Do it, do the research, just don't get caught with a bad engine or head gaskets... Everything else is an easy fix!

Careful Ill talk Rovers all night!

PS This is a third car for us, only driven when needed... haul a trailer, cross a flooded stream... I live way up in the Mtns and there are weeks where a SAAB (excl. 9-7x) would not get us work. I imagine if I drove it 10k a year the reliability record might suffer... frankly I can't afford the gas to find out. Its more equipment than DD to me.

Thats some good info right there, you make me want one more!

The ZJ Grand Cherokees are pretty luxurious and capable, however dime a dozen.

Years ago, I almost bought a really cool done up Range Rover Classic. It had a bunch of OME parts and air lockers. I just got a bad vibe from it haha.

I barely drove the Aero at all this summer. It loves the miles in the winter though!

Only the most practical winter beaters for me, a rear wheel drive 3-series.

Disco is cool as hell, I've always loved range/land rovers, but have been too scared to buy one. Post some more pics!
